Trike/ride on for one year old

Hi,
I'm going goggle-eyed from looking at trikes/ride-ons for DD. I should have been in bed hours ago.

I want to get one for her first birthday.

The thing is that she is my first baby so I don't know how/when it'll be used. Indoors/outdoors I haven't a clue.

I also don't now whether to get one with a parent handle. The smart trikes look interesting, but would she get too used to being pushed and have difficulties riding bikes later? The wooden trikes look nice, but then presumably they couldn't be used outdoors.

Can someone kind please help me?

Bump

Reading this back now and it seems a bit gabbled!

Basically just want recommendations please on a trike or ride on for a one year old, preferably (though not necessarily) one that will grow with her.

Id say a Smart trike. Will def grow with her.

We bought DD1 one for her 1st birthday. She loved it! Shes now 2.5 and still loves it. The parent handle is great and doesnt stop her wanting to pedal it herself, just means I can guide her.

I have just bought DD2 the Little tikes smart trike for her birthday. (not 1 till May but it was in the sale!)
Cant wait to take them both out on their trikes round the park in the spring :)

Wooden trikes are best indoors on a smooth surface. If thats what you wanted then id say the ELC trike or a Wheeleybug.
I guess it depends what you prefer... an indoor or outdoor toy.

Hope that helps :)

we have a little ride on car (was about a tenner in argos) for in the house (our ds's birthday was in dec) which was fab,and we also have a smart trike which we bought(with his birthday money) last summer when he was about 15m,its great, much more exciting than going to the park in a buggy, esp when our older 2 are on bikes/scooters.

My only advice is get one with little footrests. I used to find that if pushing DD using the handle all the way to our local park and back, she didn't like resting her feet on spinning pedals. In the end I would have to tip the whole trike back so the front wheel was off the ground - total PITA. A couple of little footrests would have made life a lot easier.

Of course there's probably a counter argument about them not wanting to pedal, but DD saved that for the times I wasn't pushing...

Thanks! People do seem to love those smart trikes. Methinks I will get one at some stage.

In the meantime I have also ordered the mookie scuttlebug, probably just to use in the house.

i like our smart trike, but i have the one which the parent handle steers it,and i find it really annoying that the child car steer it too,it can make it unstable if lo turns the steering at the wrong time,i find i sometimes need to tip it onto the rear wheels when he does it so i can choose which direction we are going in!!

toys r us had a really good display with about 8 or 9 different types of smart trike and similar things that you can try out, really good if you have one nearby x
