dd2 will be 3 in a couple of weeks and wants a bike or a trike. She is quite weeny and although strong, not very coordinated. What shall I get her?

Tassis' friend in Oz here - go with the scooter - it's what ds wanted for this 3rd b'day and dh overruled. He was really a bit big at 4 but was determined to make the most of having his heart's desire. Ds2 (also 2) was a great rival and we will prob get him one here for his 3rd in Jan. HTH

Bike. We got a trike for ds1 and he never got the hang of pedalling - not until he got a proper bike. If you think of it, a trike is very hard to pedal - your feet are forward of your knees meaning you don't have gravity to help you push down on the pedals as you do with a bike where you are fairly upright.

We're getting ds2 a bike for Christmas - 14" wheels I think (he'll be 4 in December and he's fairly tall). All the sites I've looked at have said 12" wheels suitable from 2-5 so I would imagine that's the size you'll want to go for.

I found a good site last night with a lot of information on choosing a bike on it Bikes2U - shame about the name! I haven't ordered anything from them (though I may get ds2 the red BMX style 14"!) so I can't vouch for them personally but the prices seem pretty competitive and the information is useful.

Actually that site says 12" 3-5 (but some others I've looked at have said 2-5 ).

lol enid. I objected to the one with a pink furry saddle and gimmicky dolly.
Settled for a toned down version here but may be too big for your dd. Our dd is a petite 4yr old and is only just about tall enough to pedal it.
