Have you got an unusual shaped loo seat?

Our recently acquired new pad has got

wooden loo seats

Replacing the downstairs one is fine cos it's a normal shape and can get a normal shape ordinary seat from B&Q.

But upstairs the loo seat is a weird shape, a bit like a guitar. Wider at the back than the front. iyswim.

How will I ever get a replacement for it?

Please don;t tell me we need a new loo. It's an otherwise perfectly OK white suite and we've so many things to do in the house I can't add another thing to the list.

Has anyone got a similarly shaped one with a normal white seat on it? If so do you know the make?

We have a stupid shaped loo seat too. It's sort of square. The only thing I could suggest is painting it, if you don't like the look of the wood, or is it something else about it you don't like?

But loo seats should be wooden I think the painting idea is the simplest option for you, as it sounds like a bit of a designer toilet you have there. Is there a brand name on any of the rest of the suite (sometimes they are marked on the sink, or the taps).

I don't think wooden loo seats, especially when well used by other people before you, are particularly hygenic.

Maybe I am being a bit Ann Maurice here, but even after a good dose of bleach they still look grotty.

And the metal bits that attach them are all corroded too.

They've gotta go.

I suspected it was more than aesthetics at stake here. Can't you sand them to within an inch of their lives, then seal with varnish or something? I agree the metal bits are yuk, but that can happen with any seat. Could you just replace the hinges, perhaps?

Ah, each to their own. I really dislike plastic ones (for no good reason), although dd did chose a disgusting looking resin seat a couple of months ago and it is quite nice to sit on. Perhaps you could do a cut out of your seat with newspaper and take it to a designer sort of bathroom shop? Or a photo? A person in the know might be able to recognise it.
