Do I have to stand there for three hours scrubbing with the Brasso, or is there Another Way?

Apparently you can smother the brass in tomato ketchup, leave it for a couple of hours, then wipe it off.

Brasso is probably less messy though ...

That won't impress the postman!

That's true ... a bit downmarket really isn't it, tomato ketchup

Well quite... perhaps I should try Balsamic Vinegar?

Mmmmm, might be slightly better ... a bugger to get to stick to the doorknob though ....

I read this as "how do I clean Bras"

OK, I'll get me coat.....

SORRY to be so boring, but any EVENING thoughts on my dirty-brass dilemma?

All together now,

Shine up your buttons with Brasso,
Its only three ha'pence a tin
You can buy it or swipe it from Woolworths
Your sure to get it within.

Sheesh, I'm giving me age away!

morningpaper · 28/09/2005 20:29

Hmm I need to start hanging around with people my own age...

It was a 'rude song' we would sing in Guides!

( To the tune of My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean)
My father's a lavatory cleaner
He works both by day and by night
And when he comes home in the evening
He's covered all over in Shine
Up your buttons with Brasso
Its only three apence a tin
You can buy it or nick it from Woolworths
But I doubt if they'll have any in
Some say that he died of a fever
Some say that he dies of a fit
But I know what my father dies of
He died of the smell of the Shine
Up your buttons with Brasso
Its only three apence a tin
You can buy it or nick it from Woolworths
But I doubt if they'll have any in
Some say that he's buried in a graveyard
Som say that he's buried in a pit
But I know where my fathers buried
He's buried in six feet of Shine
Up your buttons with Brasso
Its only three apence a tin
You can buy it or nick it from Woolworths
But I doubt if they'll have any in

I've used this for cleaning letterboxes and house numbers before - it was very effective.

Thanks for reminding me about that song LOL

Hi I am not sure how on earth you would apply this to a letter box, but I bought some brass for my gran from an antiques store the chap in the shop said to leave it to soak for a few hours in a bucket with 1 part vinegar and 7 Parts water it worked a treat best brass ever with the least effort and I have just never forgotten!

SaintGeorge · 16/05/2009 17:16

I think she might have cleaned it by now.
