Hi all, sorry if Im going over old ground here, but I need some advice.
My DS is 8.5 months and is trying to crawl (backwards bum shuffles mostly...) and he loves his door bouncer, only thing is he is getting to big for it.
Am thinking of buying a walker (or excerciser??), as I thought it would strengthen his leg muscles.
Or am I just wasting my money?
which one do I buy?
Any tips welcome, thanks!

This is always going to be one of those subjects. I would make your own mind up mumfor1sttime .

staceym11 · 27/09/2005 17:17

they are only dangerous if you dont watch them, and all baby stuff says dont leave them alone, so if you only used it when you were there itd be fine!

starlover · 27/09/2005 17:20

here

mumfor1sttime · 27/09/2005 17:21

Wasnt worried so much about the safety aspect as ds would be in it when I am watching him, as I said I live in small 2 up 2 down and he would only be in the walker in the lounge, with my company.
Was just wondering if anyone had found them useful for their LO or if they just sat their gathering dust!

Well I am going to get one for dd. Her osteopath suggested it because dd desperately wants to be upright all the time and it will help with her colic. They are only dangerous if you don't supervise them, just like with anything else.

starlover · 27/09/2005 17:23

i would go for the static one, or the activity table if i were you

my ds has had accidents even when i have been watching him, so not worth the extra risk IMO

starlover · 27/09/2005 17:25

you can get one like this

puff · 27/09/2005 17:27

The static activity centres (that you sit the baby upright in) are really good, although I suspect HV's disapprove of those too now. When I had ds1 in 2001, I was told that a door bouncer was a good idea. In 2003, with ds2, the advice changed and I was told not to use it. Still did though - it was the only way to get a shower or bath!

mumfor1sttime · 27/09/2005 17:29

Thanks for link starlover, think I am having second thoughts. Will not be buying one!

The fisher price ball blaster is a good toy for pulling up on and playing

jessicaandbumpsmummy · 27/09/2005 17:32

Jess lvoed hers.... it was a godsend for me because she HAD to be upright - my darling angel REFUSED to sit on the floor or roll about, she had to be up!

Ive still got it for the bump, but ill play it by ear and if this baby is more content to be on the floor then so be it.

Personal choice as with everything in life!!!

vickitiredmum · 27/09/2005 17:36

What the hell is that zippitipitoes? Sounds quite painful - dont think my DP would want one of those lurking around my DS's toybox!

(lots of "suggest" and "may" in that link...... )

zippitippitoes · 27/09/2005 17:40

It is a helter skelter run for balls with sound and still popular at 17months

here

I wouldn't get a sit in walker either

mumfor1sttime · 27/09/2005 17:42

That looks fun, do they lean onto the side then?

OP posts:
vickitiredmum · 27/09/2005 17:43

oh ok! That looks emanently more sensible than what i had pictured

sweetkitty · 27/09/2005 17:45

DD has this loves it to pieces, tune drives you insane though

stride to ride

mumfor1sttime · 27/09/2005 17:49

sweetkitty that looks good too!! I have lots of ideas spinning in my little brain now!

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 27/09/2005 17:52

We found it perfectly stable for pulling up and well constructed

Still likes putting other toys in it

mumfor1sttime · 27/09/2005 17:55

Fisher price have some really good ideas, think I need to go shopping!

OP posts:
sweetkitty · 27/09/2005 17:57

DD got hers as a present only thing was when she was learning to walk her arms went faster than her legs, I think it's good value as she can use it as a ride along. She also got a fisher price activity table which she pulled herself up against. To be honest I think your DS will be pulling himself up in a few months so a walker might be a waste of money IMO.

staceym11 · 27/09/2005 18:00

oh it was brill, dd wanted to be upright at 2weeks old and thats when she started sitting in it (padded my blankets) it kept her entertained and i didnt have to be holding her (she couldnt even reach the floor for about 4mth!) do what you think right if you worried about saftey get a static one, only thing i found good was the walker could have different toys on it if they get bored, dunno if you can with the static ones!

mumfor1sttime · 27/09/2005 18:02

sweetkitty, think you are right about the walker being a waste, been thinking (wow) and chatting to dh, he said the fisher price activity table or the spinning ball one would be a good idea.
Has anyone tried the vtech baby walker - was going to get one later on when ds is on his feet, does anyone have experience of this one?
My ds is quite tall for his age, so was wondering if the vtech would be high enough... oh the questions....

OP posts:
zippitippitoes · 27/09/2005 18:04

Vtch walker as well

It goes quick to start wiht as doesn't really have any stops on the wheels but quite good

I prefer the wooden ones with bricks but that's just personal preference

Bozza · 28/09/2005 11:40

Vtec walker type thing better when they are first starting to try to cruise/walk but limited life span IMO. Brick trolley not as good for first cruising but longer life span. I still think you have left it too late to bother with even a stationary walker. Ball blaster v. popular with DD and her cousin (we both one for each last Christmas). Also entertains visiting older children and DS (aged 4).

mumfor1sttime · 28/09/2005 14:06

Thanks. The fisher price ones all sound good. Will def have to have a closer look at those.
