Baby changer with drawers?

I'm killing my back chaning baby on the floor, so want something waist-height. However, the only space we've got is currently occupied by a chest of drawers so I'd need a changing unit that replaced them storage-wise.

Does anyone have any recommendations? We can't afford to spend more than c.£150 on this.

Understand re. back, however baby changers have a limited life span before they become positively dangerous. Lost count of the many tales on here of people just catching their baby by the ankle as they took a nose dive off the side.

How old is your little one?

LeggyBlondeNE · 08/12/2010 11:38

She's three months old, but really - I have bad knees and my back is agony after I change her so I really really can't carry on on the floor. The inconvenience of constantly keeping a hand on her while changing her would be a small price to pay for protecting my joints in the long term.

I still use a mat on top of the original drawers we had for dd (3) and ds (18 months) I keep the nappies wipes cream etc in the top drawer as so not to have to move away. Neither of them have fallen off

Ikea do a white chest of drawers in their Hemnes range which you can buy a changing table top to go with, this would be within your budget.

They used to do a pine chest of drawers with a changing top too but I cant see it on the website now. its worth checking ebay for second hand ones.

you can just put a changing mat on top of an ordinary chest of drawers of course, if large enough. obviously you would never leave a baby unattended on a changing table anyway.

I bought a secondhand cosatto one on ebay. Now in use for DC2 (and still used by DC1!)

Could you adapt the chest of drawers and add a lip round the top and save yourself some money?

In the end I got a second hand Ikea one where the changing area folds out and is just shelves above the drawers in between.

I think a large chest of drawers and adding a lip would have been my next step otherwise though!
