DFS - anyone purchased a sofa from them recently?

As usual DFS are offering '400 years interest free credit (actually it's probably only 4, but you get my drift) and nothing to pay for the first year' on the leather sofa I am interested in. Has anyone had any success in getting a discount for cash from them instead. Alternatively can you suggest how I might find out if they have a 'double/triple/quadruple discount sale' on the horizon or, lastly, if I can find out the manufacturer and generic name of the sofa I am interested in to get a quote from a furniture wholesaler I know?
Thank you for any info!

we bought 3 sofas (2yrs ago - double discount sale) and ds is a real haggler but on this occaision failed. dont know whether the salesman was particularly hard nosed. you could try ringing the store and saying that its between one of their sofas and someone elses but your hubby wont pay their price - do they have a sale coming up soon, if so you will wait and def buy theirs

Hi Copycat,

My brother bought his leather sofa in the double discount, 4 years interest free thingy a few months ago - he took our Dad with him (who is usually amazing when it comes to getting discount/something free) but the saleswoman and the manager refused any discount for cash! The company that finances the 'loans' must be giving DFS one hell of a percentage to say that! SORRY

they make their money on the 4 year interest free bit as you have to take out an insurance thing to get the interest free credit -- so not really interest free (but first year isas you don't need insurance for that bit...)
I bought 2 leather sofas from them 3 years ago and I am not impressed -- the elather is poor quality and is very worn and sticky where heads rest... am looking forward to ditching them...

NO no discount for cash! when we brought our sofa there was awoman who was getting really irate because they wouldn't even give her £10 off the price of the sofa for cash.

My dad tried as well and they refused so he went elsewhere, and my godmother tried and was again refused although she then brought it on teh intereest free finance and paid in whole at the end of the interest free period to avoid interest. (if you are late with your payemnt they charge you interest in full, no allowances, even one day)

Hmmm, I suspected as much! ..."No Madam, no discount for cash. Sorry. We can't be seen to discriminate against those people who need finance" to quote the DFS employee I spoke to in store yesterday. What tosh! SCS sofas are quite happy to 'discrimate' against those who need credit because the salesman there was very keen to 'negotiate' for cash. What a shame the sofa I prefer is in DFS. I'm working on 'un-prefering' it by the hour
Thank you to everyone who has shared their experiences.

Copycat, did you tell DFS that you prefer their sofa rather than those in SCS? Surely, they wouldn't want to lose a customer and if they won't back down, I'd have a moan to the local press!! Can you tell I'm having a bad day!!
