Has anybody had one of these? if so which one and what are the pros and cons about them?

Thinking of buying one of ebay but 1) have not heard anything about them and 2) not sure which one to go for.

TIA

i have a zapp. its a good little buggy, tho no basket andtips easily when use dwith a car seat if you put anything on the handle bars. i need a buggy weight on the front.

vickiyumyum · 25/09/2005 21:20

i had the quinny freestyle xl (three wheeler with a steerable front wheel) for ds2 and i loved it was very comfy, easy to use, except the raincover which i gave up on and brought amothercare universal three wheeler raincover instead.

ds2 loved it as well as he could see out easily and it was a smooth ride for him.

i sold it to my friend when she was expecting as i am bit of a buggyaholic and aprt from seeling my mountain buggy urban it was the one i regretted selling the most!

vickiyumyum · 25/09/2005 21:22

the zapp, comes down to personal taste i think, i brought one and disliked it, found it tipped easily, would roll off on its own on flat surfaces and awkward to push, so promptly flogged it on ebay! (sorry to disagree misdee)

but they are obviously very poplular as whilst on holiday in cornwall and greece saw hundreds of them!

misdee · 25/09/2005 21:24

i find it easy to push, but agree eit does roll easily, so you do need to use the brake. i likle it as it works with my car seat and is handy for the hospital. i find putting a small amout of weight on the front stops the tipping problem.

BunnyBoo · 25/09/2005 21:25

I think thats the one i have been looking at buying of ebay (quinny freestyle xl) do you know what proper retail price is for them?
I also don't know what colour to get as they seem to come in all sorts, its for new baby and this one is a girl any colour advice, also should i get one with the carrycot or just the pushchair?

Sorry for all the questions

kiddicare have one with carrycot for 249

vickiyumyum · 25/09/2005 21:28

i had the quinny xl in navy, good practical colour easy to buy accessories for. i didn't have the carrycot ds2 was about 3 months when i started using it and from memory it did lie back quite flat. you can buy a maxi cosi car seat and adaptors to amke it a travel system.

from memory i paid between £250 and £300 for it from kiddicare.com, this was 3 years ago.

NomDePlume · 25/09/2005 21:29

I like the look of those, they look ever so comfy too, but I have heard that they are pretty heavy.

vickiyumyum · 25/09/2005 21:29

on kiddicare.com at the moment it is £249.99 with carrycot!

vickiyumyum · 25/09/2005 21:32

just did a quick google and www.tjcnursery.co.uk have the navy or aubergine colours with raincover for £149.99 which seems like a bargain, don't know how much they are going for on ebay at the momrnt though.

BunnyBoo · 25/09/2005 21:36

I am just goinf to have a look at the links now.

NDP - now that is one of my worries about how heavy they are i am going to go and try and see if i can find there weight.

OP posts:
vickiyumyum · 25/09/2005 21:36

no heavier than most other three wheelers imo

it is quite light to steer!

BunnyBoo · 25/09/2005 21:42

yes it is about the smae wieght as all the other travel systems and all that, its 14kg, That is a very good price am really considering that, if i don't like it i will just resell it on ebay.

Another question would be would it fit in the boot of my car?? i have a new shape vauxall astra what do you think?

OP posts:
misdee · 25/09/2005 21:44

i could fit a phil and teds into my old new style astra.

vickiyumyum · 25/09/2005 21:45

could fit in an old shape focus (54 reg) and my freinds audi s4, and the boots are of a similar size so i would of thought so.
(envy you with new shape astra, wanted that but somehow ended up with an old shape focus!!)

BunnyBoo · 25/09/2005 21:48

Right ok, thanks for your help, next step is to worm my way round dh ahhhh that should be rather easy ...... i hope

I bought a quinny off ebay - it was aubergine with 4 wheels. I bought it because I thought the wheels swivelled. They didn't & I sent it back. It was HUGE (& ugly). I think they are called Quinny Freestyle ? Viciyumyum, do you know ?

Personally can't stand the zapps - I don't think I've ever seen a child look comfortable it one.

I think they should be banned..she says in a small voice, hoping not to offend anyone....

mojomummy- the one i am looking at has a swivel wheel. I do agree that they seem to look big, maybe i should go and see if i can find one in a shop first and see if i like it and then get it off line for the cheapest price?

My problem would be it says from 4 months so maybe i can not use it i wanted it from birth?

OP posts:
misdee · 25/09/2005 21:56

think the freestyle has atilting wheel rather than a swivel.

why should a zapp be banned? does that mean all fixed postition buggies should be banned? [not angry just curiious emotiocon.]

BunnyBoo · 25/09/2005 21:59

I don't agree it should be banned, i think we all like all different sorts of pushchairs for all sorts of reasons, My new pushchair is for a new born but i did look at the zapp for ds for when we went abroad as it seems to be very light and easy to push (think i am talking about the same one) i was in toys r us looking and had a quick push of it

OP posts:
vickiyumyum · 25/09/2005 21:59

the four wheeler one is a quinny freestyle 4xl (i thin) also had one of these which i brought from ebay and the wheels turned ever so slightly in a way that actually made it awkward to push, but the three wheeler version is great it has a tilting wheel, which ids very easy to use.
to use form birth you will probably want the carrycot or carseat and adaptors.

Mojomummy - buggyaholic moi? (that goes for you too!

misdee · 25/09/2005 22:01

i have a pram and phland teds for day to day use, the zapp is just for the car really.

vickiyumyum · 25/09/2005 22:01

just decided that the zapp was too gimmicky, it was great at the time for a little while as we had a hire car, a renault modus with the world smallest boot and when we went to brighton for the weekend it was the only buggy we could fit in and take some luggage as well and it did fold small enough to go int eh footwell in the back of the car. just couldn't cope with the handles and the rolling off if you forgot to put your breaks on for a second!

Mojomummy · 26/09/2005 10:10

Ok, maybe I should have written, "....zapp should be banned " ?

I've just seen quite a few toddlers with crinked necks sitting in the zapps & I feel sorry for them, they look so uncomfortable , . Perhaps I could get a job as a buggy policer ?!

I guess it depends on your needs, I've been through 9 pushchairs (bought & sold off e-bay). I'd say a pram for newborn, something with pnuematic wheels for cobbled roads (quinny, 3 wheeler etc ) & then maybe some sort of pliko/alternative (with a leg rest & recline) from about a year ? If only I'd have known that then...still sort of had fun making the mistakes !
