When buying curtains....please help!

The width bit - is the width given when buying curtains the whole width of the window, or per curtain?

Just realised I have very rarely bought curtains before - have none in living area here! And then we just got some from Ikea and hoped for best.

I know I want long drop - which'll be 90inch. But stumped on this width bit.

So total or per curtain?

Thanks!

per curtain

fairydust · 23/09/2005 08:48

most ready made curtains long length are 90inch - ikea are about 110

It's the width of the whole window I think. The curtains are usually a bit wider to give you some 'gather'.

Argh - conflicting advice!!!

Have sorted the length, but just stumped on this width now...

you measure the window then half it.
for example if the window is 120 - half it - 60 so you go for 66wide to give you plenty of gathers.

had to buy curtains for every window in this house when we moved here.

curtains - while our curtains are sold in pairs the sizes quoted in the catalogue refer to the individual curtain

Iklboo · 23/09/2005 08:57

It might depend on the catalogue. Littlewoods size quote is for the whole window - eg 'to fit rail width 5ft'. Just get some blinds

Thanks.

Going to wait until Monday now. We go to do the snagging then, and I will remember to take tape measure and measure up properly. Then have a look.
