Hey,
Has anyone used these for their 5mth old plus toddlers before?
www.thudguard.com
I intend to purchase one for my 8 mth old who keeps bashing her head on the floor.
Any thoughts?

My thought is that she will never learn not to bash her head if she is wearing a helmet that protects her.

Oh and crawling/cruising babies need to be watched all the time.

i think they're a stupid idea

they'll teach your 8 month old that when she hits her head it dpoesn't hurt.
so she'll have no reason to stop hurling herself on the floor/down steps/off the sofa

babies have got on just fine for thousands of years without baby crash helmets

babies fall over. they're generally just fine!

Personally I wouldn't bother. Unless your DC is crawling around on concrete, I just think they won't come to that much harm.

I think if it's used out in public he/she will look a bit of a curiosity.

Both mine were/are forever standing up and toppling down, even in their cots (when presumably they wouln't be wearing one anyway).

ok thanks for your opinions all rather negative so far..- but I am actually after people's experience with the product rather than an unqualified opinion.

Is there a medical reason why your baby's head needs additional protection?

3beagles · 22/11/2010 21:30

Well if it helps I'm an paediatric OT.

3beagles · 22/11/2010 21:36

And you did ask 'any thoughts?' in your OP.

Valpollicella · 22/11/2010 21:49

You asked for thoughts rather than if anyone had had previous experience of the product OP.

I think it's a ridiculous idea tbh

Ha ha, I have never seen those before!

I like the "You take the FIRST STEP and protect your toddler's brain!" quote.

I know this thread is pretty old, but it is the only one that comes up on a google search for Thudguard, just wondering if anyone else has more constructive comments / personal experience of using the thudguard.

Whilst I agree with some of the negative comments, we are heading for Christmas holidays in a country where most floors are tiled or concrete, and I have a 7 month old who is trying to stand and walk, so bangs his head hard on the floor about 4 times a day, fine at home on wood and carpeted floors, potentially v. dangerous on concrete.

In particular, how hot/sweaty is it (we'll be at over 30C) so don't want him to overheat with sweaty headgear on.

haha i came on to say i hated them, but it turns out I already said that!

i realise you don't want that response though, but what do you think all the other children do that grow up in that country?
are you surrounded by brain damaged children?
if not then I'd wager that your child will be fine too.

it's natural to want to do whatever you can to keep your baby from harm, but if your child learns that it doesn't hurt when it falls on the floor or bashes its head then when it isn't wearing the helmet it's going to get one hell of a shock!

all i can suggest alternatively is that you invest in some thick rugs, ensure there is a "safe" place for him to practise when you can't be there wtih him, and the rest of the time just be there to catch him when he falls
