Any opinions good or bad welcomed. We are doing a new kitchen and have briefly thought of this cooker. Any experiences anyone?

As in a Rayburn Rangemaster? Or is it something else

assumpta · 21/09/2005 15:40

Yes they are similar to both of those, but maybe not quite such a big size.

I've a Rangemaster electric 120cm range in black and I love it

Assuming it's a Rayburn/Aga type that weighs half a ton and heats up your water and is on constantly I'd have to give it the thumbs down.

We inherited one when we bought the house and found it uneconomical, hopeless for cooking and a nightmare in the summer.

Ours ran on gas but we would switch it to the off position rather than keep it on all the time because the kitchen just got too hot and it was a dreadful waste of fuel. It did heat the radiators and was great for drying clothes on but generally more hassle than it's worth. When we got rid of it, the amount of plumbing removed was amazing so I assume when one is getting installed then it would be the same in reverse. We managed to sell it on Ebay and thankfully the buyer paid for the delivery. It took 4 burly removal men to shift it using piano rollers.

I know there are more up-to-date versions (ours was about 20 years old) but I love my new normal cooker and having a very efficient combi boiler for the hot water.

I have a rangemaster 55 auto gas.

assumpta · 21/09/2005 15:53

Bella, how long have you had yours? Any down side?

Pagan, it is just a cooker and not for hot water. I know the raeburns that you mean as we had one when I was growing up. Some heat during the warm summer?

I have 2 friends that have them and they love them

I have to say - I'm quite impressed by the skillet thing that goes over two hops for steaks etc...

Pagan · 21/09/2005 15:56

Ahhh - I'll but out then as I've no clue about the other ones

Whispers - I love my SMEG

Hi,
I have a green Rangemaster 110, gas cooker, its now 7yrs old and I love it, just couldn`t be without it, could never go back to an ordinary cooker with one oven. Great griddle plate and warmer too, its fantastic, highly recommended.

BellaLasagne · 22/09/2005 12:52

Mines a 110, not 120cm, sorry.

I have the electric version because we don't have mains gas out here in the sticks. I could have had a gas one running on propane/Calor but would have had to have the cylinder in the kitchen and I didn't fancy that. I would choose the gas one if I could for the sake of the griddle/wok ring which looks great.

I've had mine about 18 months. Pluses: loads of rings, the plate warmer is brilliant, fan oven is good and warms up quickly, it has a timer so you can programme it to cook while you're out (great when you've hungry children!),there are lights inside each oven so you can see inside without opening the door)it looks great and really sets off my kitchen.

Minuses: there's only one height setting for the grill so I can't always fit things under it, and it would be lovely if each of the 2 ovens had independent timers, but there's only one timer (you can set either or both ovens but they have to be to the same programme). This is being really fussy - the pluses definitely outweight the minuses and I'd definitely recommend it.

BL (P.S it makes great lasagne!)

I've got the Toledo 110 & love it, looks great, cooks great, wouldn't change it (easy to clean too)
