Custom-made beds: metal frame or divan?

Have to buy a new bed, have finally chucked our ancient custom-made divan, and didn't think it would be this hard to decide what bed to buy now!

As dh is taller than the average man we have no choice but to get one made.

I have found a company that makes metal frame and divans to order but having never had a metal frame bed wonder if anyone can tell me the pros and cons?

I had an iron bed frame with wooden slats. It made an off putting noise when things got very passionate. I would not buy again. Looks much better than a divan though. Have you thought about a European King suze bed. DP is 6.2 and has plenty of room but they are very wide as well as long so you need a big room/

I prefer Divans, I think they look lovely with valance sheets.

I'm also looking at custom-made wooden beds.

Previously we had a divan but with an antique freestanding wooden headboard which was v. comfy to sit up against in bed to read the papers (I wish lol.

dh is 6' 7'' so beds aren't the only thing he can't buy "off the peg"

What about a king size, they are longer in width than length, IYSWIM, 8ft wide, you couls turn it around and sleep on it sideways.

What about super king size probably still too short at 6'6"

Yes we have to have 7' length which doesn't come as a standard size

We bought ours from a company in Bath called Nights in Iron (I think) and they can make them to order. We didn't like all the detail on the frame so they made us a slightly different one. It is not slatted but has two very large covered boards on the bottom. I was worried about ventilation but we got a super mattress (from them) which has lots of side ventilation and we turn it regularly. The bed does not squeak at all! I think they also have a showroom in London. They delivered and assembled it fo us (in Herts) and the lead time was about 6 weeks because it was made to order.

Here they are .

Thank you for that link Yoyo, those beds are beautiful.

Is your metal bed very comfortable - what about sitting up to read?

Also, why did you have boards instead of slats?

Our bed is exceptionally comfortable and we have never regretted buying it. I always prop myself up with pillows to read so the frame isn't an issue. I can't remember why they didn't use slats - it might be because it is so wide and the mattress very heavy. You might need a central support with slats which might ruin the look of the bed? The boards have not been a problem at all! They were very helpful so it might be worth ringing them if you want something particular.
