Renault Kangoo or Skoda Roomster?

Or other 'van' type car?
I am considering one of these as our next car - it will need to be bought second hand.
Our criteria are:
Lots of boot space
Easy to lift a teenage sized wheelchair in and out without dismantling it
Cheap to run
Reliable

Thanks - Any views or experience welcome!

I'll talk to you but I know nothing about the cars!

:pathetically grateful:

I know nothing about cars, either!

My car is blue and has a big boot. That is the extent of it.

I think you need a lovely gypsy caravan. It would be easy to put a ramp on the wheel the chair up, there would be plenty of space and the horse you need to pull it owuld be a great family pet.

I would love a gypsy caravan.....even a camper van (wistful)......

We have a Citroen Berlingo and I know a lot are used as cars for disabled. The boot space is large and high. Ours is for sale if you are interested lol.

Blu · 08/11/2010 13:40

I think the Berlingo is generally a bit bigger all round?
But tell me why yopu're selling, how much and what the age and mileage is? Go on tempt me! Unless it is that bright turquoise colour!

We have a Citroen Nemo (like Berlingo but smaller) - not sure if it would fit a wheelchair in the back, you'd have to check dimensions. But we love it - cheap to run, insure, buy... Oh, and no-one else has one cos everyone hates it so you can always spot it in the car park!!

Well, we were looking at it too and turned up at the Citygate London showroom today passing by, but it was closed. But they had a nice blue one (2nd hand) for sale so worth having a look! Out of interest, how many carseats do you need to get in there? We were concerned about whether the middle seat would be big enough for one.

If you do look at the Roomster (which we have looked at ourselves) it has pluses and minuses. The pluses are that it is well made and if you get one that is only 3 years old with a relatively small mileage (no more than 10,000 per year, say) then you can get one for just over half price of a new one. It has the feel of a volkswagen (solidly made) quite good room in the boot, and if needed all rear seats can be removed if you need a small van at any point.

The minuses (for me, at least) are the looks. It is a little quirky, not as bad as the Fiat Multiplo frog eyed thing, but different all the same. Like the previous comment, I suppose the upside of this is that you will spot it easily in a car park lol. Another down side is the middle rear seat is smaller than the other two for some reason. I'm sure a baby seat will fit here if need be, but three adults in the back may be a squeeze.

They come with standard extras and I like the ones (not sure if all have them) that come with a panoramic glass roofs. I'd look for a diesel for economy too. They do a 1.4 and a 1.9 for a bit more 'oomf'. Hope this helps whoever may be looking. :)
