thinking of getting a trunki for ds's birthday.
we are flying a few times a year and I would like to know if they are a good idea or if a "normal" small suitcase would be better.

Probably good fun. Saw a small girl on a giraffe trunki at airport on Monday and made me want one (trunki)! She was pulled along by mum. Good size flight bag, but no good once child has long legs and may get tired of fun image - ie novelty fades. I wouldn't see a child using them for long. Presumably can use them as a normal trolley case too? Cute!

Can use to keep things in at home!!

DD has one and loves it. She's 2.9 and has had it about 18 months. I haven't flown with it but use it for holidays for her toys and she uses it as a ride on when we're away.

Ours goes on every holiday, including a trip to New Zealand. We'll probably get one for our youngest as well.

Can it go in as cabin luggage?

GoldenHaze · 04/11/2010 19:18

My DD (two years) LOVES her "Ladybird". As they're hand luggage size, they're great as a portable library/toy box.

She 'led' Ladybird all around the airport and was entertained by it on the plane and during the holiday. It's easy to wheel around from hotel room to pool etc.

Well worth the £30 or so I spent on Amazon.

Thanks ladies.
is the trunki big enough for a 4 year old*s holiday? a few changes of clothes a toy and a few books?

We have a gruffalo one and a tiger one, love them! Great size for sleepovers with the grandparents. I don't think you'd get enough in asa sole holiday case tbh, maybe a weekend away.

GoldenHaze · 05/11/2010 13:26

Have a look at one in a shop. I'm not sure how many changes of clothes you could fit in, but we carried a Mr Potato Head (bulky package), several books, jigsaws and about five or six cuddly toys in there.

It's hand luggage size.

You couldn't get everything a small child needs for their holiday in it (and I'm not sure it would withstand the abuse that baggage handlers dish out), but it goes on as hand luggage, so it's great for packing with everything they might need to amuse themselves on a long journey.

And the other really handy thing about it is that it doubles up as a ride-on, which DS1 really appreciated when we went on holiday.
