Toddler Car Seat with Isofix

We're having trouble finding a toddler car seat which:

  • Is good quality and safe (obviously, probably!)
  • Suits a tall two year old (she's too tall for the stage 2 seat she currently has, even though we were told it would do her until she was six!)
  • Has Isofix

It seems that no seats of this stage have Isofix...or am I wrong??

Thank you! :)

at 2 she needs to be in a harnessed seat... you shou.d be able to find plenty of isofix ones

SleepWhenImDead · 02/11/2010 20:24

We have the Maxi Cosi Priorifix - it's wonderful and very sturdy.

pastaplease · 02/11/2010 20:28

thisisyesterday, she's too tall for them. Her head's over the top and it's unsafe.

Sleepwhenimdead, that's the same size as our current Britax one, and she's too tall.

Sorry, I meant to say "Thanks though"! :)

I've just ordered a Jane Montecarlo Plus with the Xtend impact cushion.

It's isofix and can be reclined with the child in the seat. Group 2,3 but with the impact cushion it is a 1,2,3 seat i.e. suitable from 9 months (though my DD is a lightweight 3yo)

mylifewithstrangers · 02/11/2010 20:32

Oh and look at the Cybex ones otherwise. Mamas & Papas sell them. We tried them out in the shop and DD liked them (the Solution X I think). Also isofix and/or impact cushion.

thisisyesterday · 02/11/2010 20:33

she isn't too tall unless the top of her ears are level with the top of the back

i would scrap the isofix and get something like the britax evolva 1-2-3

a properly fitted belted seat is as safe as an isofix one

thisisyesterday · 02/11/2010 20:33

personally i would go for an extended rear-facing seat

see www.rearfacing.co.uk for reasons why

thisisyesterday · 02/11/2010 20:34

how much does she weigh?

pastaplease · 02/11/2010 20:46

Thanks all.

Her ears are within a cm of being level, so it's time to get a new one.

She weighs about 34lbs, I think.

mylifewithstrangers, that Jane seat looks like a good option, as does the Cybex, thank you.

thisisyesterday, yes you're right of course about a properly fitted seat, but we have to move the seat between my car, my partner's car, his work car sometimes and the campervan, so I like to be able to slot it in quickly and safely.

Thanks for the rearfacing link, I'll have a good look at that.

wow you have a campervan with isofix? cool :)

i want a camper one day!

i think if it were me i would go to somewhere that had LOTS of different seats and try them out, make sure you get the best one to last her if she is very tall already

pastaplease · 02/11/2010 20:55

I'm glad you think it's cool because it took AGES to get it all sorted in the van! :) DP's was in his element on the VW Camper forums looking for a solution!

Yes, you're right. We'll have to try a few out I think. Thanks again for all of your help.

hmmm now i know it can be done i will be looking a little more closely at those used vw ads!
i do have 3 kids to fit in tho, that's the problem Confused

pastaplease · 02/11/2010 21:17

Hmmm, I'm not sure how/if it's possible with three seats. DD sits in the front passenger and I'm in the back (I know my place).

this forum was very helpful.

haha thanks. it might have to wait until they are a bit older i guess. i still have to save up the money for one anyway :)

castleonthehill · 03/11/2010 17:17

We got the duo isofix as my daughter grew out of her maxi cosy seat. I went with a tape measure and measured them all. I didn't look at the more expensive seat as she was nearly three lots of shops tried to sell me a stage 2 seat which she wasn't heavy enough for. she stayed in it until she was 18kg. If I had my time again I think I would go for a two way elite from here

We now have a kidfix as it seamed the strongest safest high back

thisisyesterday · 03/11/2010 19:15

that's what we have castle :)
