Present Ideas for 1 year old

DS is going to be one soon. He has an older sister, now 4, so already has lots of her old toys to play with. I was wondering if there are any new fab "must haves" for a 1 year old boy.

A friend has the Playskool Ball Popper which he absolutely loves so we're going to get him that but I'm on the look-out for stuff for grandparents (of which he has 4 sets!) to get him.

our DS was 1 in June -fave pressies included Click Clack Caterpillar from ELC, sand pit and garden swing (although we're getting into the wrong time of year for the latter two!).

Def AquaDraw by Tomy they love it! and also my dd loves her playskool ball thingy too and she got it for her 1st birthday and now she is 2 she still plays with it. Other 1st presents that grandparents have bought our kids are Bathtoys, pushalong fimbles car, playskool phone that talks, books and obviously clothes!

chicaguapa · 11/09/2005 22:34

Good advice. Thanks. This is the main problem. We already have the Aquadraw, a swing, sandpit, play doh, garage and cars (didn't want to gender stereotype DD!) The best present we got DD for her 1st birthday was the Little People farm which she played with from day 1 and it lasted her ages! We plan on getting that out again. Well...it's new to him!

Any more ideas?

How about adding to the little people then? The village is half price in ToysRUs at the moment.

Flum · 11/09/2005 23:08

Cleaning trolley. they all go mad for those mps and brushes and it can assist walking too

jabberwocky · 11/09/2005 23:58

I got ds one of those little first kitchens. He loved it.

Carameli · 13/09/2005 14:20

Aquadraw
Happyland stuff from ELC
Tad from Leapfrog. DD loves still loves it and is 2 now.
Leapfrog learning table was a real hit on her 1st b'day.
Sil bought her a lovely wooden cube with a bead maze on top. I think it was by East Coast. She loves loves it.
Also had a lovely wooden Noahs Ark.

Books! Spot, Dear Zoo, All the Ahlberg baby books.

nailpolish · 13/09/2005 14:33

my dd is 1 next month and weve got her her favourite things in the whole world - a soft ball and a windy-up car. hours and hours of fun at hardly any expense

gran has got her a little rocking ride-on car from toysrus

nailpolish · 13/09/2005 14:34

forgot about books aloha - dd here loves to look at books that have pictures of other babies in it. markies do some good ones

oliveoil · 13/09/2005 14:35

I went to Daisy and Tom at lunch and they have some fab things for kids to sit on and push around, some are ladybirds, all sorts of animals. Think they were £50 but would look better then the plastic tat that is currently squatting in our room.

jabberwocky · 14/09/2005 00:23

Oh yes, and those little leapfrog things with the books. I forget what the first level one is called but he loved the book that had the babies in it.

woodpops · 14/09/2005 09:21

Deff Aquadraw. They do a Thomas the Tank engine one now that looks fab.

acnebride · 14/09/2005 09:35

Grandparents? Large chunk of cash for the Child Trust Fund account

NB there's a really sweet book called My Grandson Is a Genius (sorry don't know author) - more for the adults than the kids but ds likes it anyway

chicaguapa · 14/09/2005 09:59

Thanks. Some good ideas there particularly the small kitchen. We don't have one of those!

Sticklebricks are another good one.

chicaguapa · 14/09/2005 12:49

Sticklebricks is good too. A bit easier for babies to put together than Duplo. Thanks.

Am looking for a first kitchen but they all say from 3yrs. Any recommendations?
