Jane Powertrack 360? or other threewheeler?

Looking to buy a three wheeler that is quite light to push around, suitable for country tracks and walks, beaches etc, and which also has a carrycot attachment for a newborn. Size doesn't matter too much as I've got an estate and will probably use a mclaren for town trips when it is a bit older, but don't want to be TOO heavy to lug around obviously.
I've looked at the "mumsnet recommends" section and old threads, but there seem to be quite a lot of new things on the market since then.
The Jane Powertrack 360 looks good, and has good carrycots attached - does anyone have one? Do you like it? Or is there anything else that people would recommend?
Many thanks - third baby, but first foray into "all terrain pushchairs" !!!

Hiya - I've got the Jane powertrack with the carseat/carrycot which matches - I'm thrilled with it. It's light and easy to manoevre (can't spell) - great for shopping trips. The flexibility of the carseat has been really useful although we didn't use it ontop of the frame very much (Xmas baby - didn't go out much full stop). I've used it in parks, on the beach and round our streets and it's been great. THe only downsides are the small luggage net underneath, and that it's bulky when folded - easy to do just takes up a lot of boot space.

It's the only pushchair I know where scary looking teenagers say "wow, cool"

We have a german made 3 wheeler ATP made by Torq. It is extremely light and easy to use. We got in on holiday in Belgium, from a maternity/baby (Mothercare style) shop called Premaman. Cost over £300 but much cheaper than similar ones here in UK. Not sure if they have a website but our best buy for definite.

You could look at a Quinny which although not so light to lift are really good to push. You can have either a carrycot or Maxi Cosi Citi car seat on the frame of either Freestyle or Fashion for a newborn. We have the Fashion 3 wheeler with fixed wheel but the pushchair seat is reversible and lies flat for a new born, so you do not need to buy an additional carrycot.

SamboM · 12/08/2003 11:46

We have an Alu-rax (Saturn model I think). It is v light and versatile.

SamboM · 12/08/2003 11:46

And it goes flat so you don't need carry cot, though you can get one if you want.

nursie · 12/08/2003 11:48

We've got the Jane Powertrack 360 as well, with the Matrix carseat / carrycot, and it's brilliant! We go for lots of walks and it's great for country tracks, and it's lighter than other three wheelers we looked at, so it's slightly easier to push up hills!
We had to scout around for ours, as there was a long waiting time - it's worth calling around to see who has stock.
I'd definitely recommend it.

florenceuk · 12/08/2003 14:20

Don't know about the Jane but we have the Mountain Buggy Urban with carrycot (indeed, if you buy this buggy I could probably do you a good deal on the carrycot...) - has swivel wheel and generally very robust construction, will last forever! About 9kg which is not bad for an ATP. Very nice to use around town, and has been to the beach and various country walks. Or see thread on double buggies which talks about the Kiwi Explorer - also swivel wheel, doesn't have carrycot but goes completely flat and has a "cocoon" which you can put baby in. IMO both of these are really well made, very robust, well balanced for walking, and if you import them direct from NZ compare quite well in price.

thanks for all these responses - v helpful. need it as a matter of urgency as baby due in 2 weeks - thought I'd be using my old pram which I lent to a friend, only to learn that she had killed it (and not only that, had left its carcass in Spain!). So went off to my local independent pram people today for a testdrive - and came home with the Jane 360 + Matrix as they had one in stock amazingly enough (seemingly the only one in the west country after the phone calls I made this morning) and I really liked it. The quinny freestyle also looked good but they said it wouldn't cope with rough tracks so well, and it was a bit heavier and bulkier generally.

So this evening's job is putting it together.....

Thanks!

If you've got the carseat which goes flat do get the buckles sorted well in advance of using them for real - we had to sort it out in the snow, in the carpark on Xmas Day! And we're such organised people normally

bells2 · 12/08/2003 20:44

PPH, do you by any chance want to attach a buggy board to it? Not all ATPs are suitable for this although I know the Land Rover and Mountain Buggy are.

princesspeahead · 12/08/2003 21:16

bloody hell, just assembled it. I'm knackered! The instructions aren't the finest are they? But think I've cracked it now. And it is very nice!
Eeek, after that bit of assembly I will certainly take your advice about the straps etc. I think I'll also need a good few dry runs of putting it in the car!

No buggyboards - next one up will be almost three and he has flatly refused to sit in a buggy for 6 months - walks everywhere....

Hi princesspeahead

I too own a Jane Powertrack 360 and I absolutely love it. The amount of comments I get while pushing my dd1 (daughter?)around is amazing.

I love the fact that the matrix is so easy to use and can be a car seat to a carrycot in a number of seconds & to think I nearly went down the M & P route, so glad I didn't now.

Have fun with your Jane

LIZS · 17/08/2003 16:15

pph

Find the shops's comment re: Quinny somewhat ironic since it must be one of the most popular models in Switzerland - perhaps a different idea of rough terrain . Anyway, saw the Jane in France yesterday - very smart but, swivel wheel aside, still preferred my Quinny Fashion - goes flatter and seems more padded . Also you can have the straps at different heights. Does the seat reverse as a matter of interest (someone I'm also in contact with on different site is having similar dilemma).

Enjoy trekking with your Jane

honeybunny · 11/07/2004 13:31

pph- so after nearly a year of use do you still like your Jane 360? Any regrets? Now expecting no3 myself and considering a foray into ATPs. Will it take a buggy board? My ds2 should be walking everywhere by Dec but if he sees an available wheel option at the moment he wants to be in it.Was the 360 suitable for a new born? I havent found one round here to look at in the flesh

honeybunny · 12/07/2004 13:07

So, soes anyone like their Jane Powertrack 360?? Just tested one in our local kiddy shop and it seems ideal although I thought a newborn might look a little lost in the seat. And it could probably do with a bit more padding. No Quinnys though so couldnt compare. There was a ITS BOOGIE Swivel (I think) but that seemed quite a bit heavier and not as easy to manouever.
Any comments?

woodpops · 12/07/2004 13:33

We've got a Quinney 3 wheeler ans it's fantastic. They do a carrycot attachement, but you can also attatch a maxi cosi baby seat to the frame. We've used the buggy on the beach and on lots of country walks. It's a pleasure to push, really light, in fact me and dh often argue as to who's pushing!!!!!

lulupop · 12/07/2004 17:51

I bought a Powetrack 360 when expecting my second child and love it. Unfrotunately DS1 really loves it and even though he;'s a chunky 2.5 yr oldthe seat is comfy and roomy for him so he wants to be in it all the time. DD is now 9 weeks and today was the first time I took her out in it (have been using old pram up to now). The seat is pretty vast for a newborn, but I have a lovley furry buggy snuggle and in that she was very happy.

It's really lightweight and easy to manoevre, no comnplaints at all really, and I'm loving mine. Only thing is, you can;t fit a buggyboard on it (or indeed on any three wheeler, I think), but that;s not a problem for me since it's turned out that DS is terrified of riding on them anyway.

honeybunny · 12/07/2004 21:17

lulupop-is that a definite about the buggy boards? I thought if I took off the pump at the back of the 360 it might take a board. This was my theory for keeping ds2 under control. ds1 is much more cooperative being that bit older and likes to hold my hand or the pushchair as we walk along.

LIZS · 12/07/2004 21:20

lulupop, I've seen kiddy and buggy boards attached to all kinds of 3 wheelers, think it just depends on location of axle and brake but perhaps Jane one is awkward.

honeybunny · 12/07/2004 22:03

LIZS- coming to my rescue again with your infinite knowledge!! I'm a bit ignorant when it comes to buggy boards but assumed that they just clipped on somehow. The wheel axel is fairly rear positioned on the Jane but the tube is quite fat and there's a pump attached on this rear axel. Wouldnt think the brake interferes at all.

Fennel · 13/07/2004 19:19

where can you buy the Jane powertrack online?

Fio2 · 13/07/2004 19:19

ebay

Ixel · 13/07/2004 19:41

there's 3 on there at the moment.

jennifersofia · 14/07/2004 01:41

What about the Jane or the Quinny and public transport? Do they work on the tube? Particularly thinking about width (can others get past if you are on escalator) and lifting.

lulupop · 15/07/2004 16:08

Have just had another look at my Jane and think you lot might be right about fitting a board if you remove the pump first, though not sure.

Re Jane on public transport, it might be a bit tricky. It is pretty wide (the reason I bought it was mainly the roomy seat as DS 1 is pretty chunky) compared to Maclaren style buggies, and although it folds down relatively easy, it doesn;t go that small if you were going on a lot od buses, for instance.

As for escalators in the tube - has anyone got any tips for managing 3-wheelers on escalators? I can just about manage if going up, but going down is impossible - buggy keeps slipping away from me!
