can you get school uniform that fits?

I'm struggling to get anything small enough for dd. She starts the school nursery next week and whilst uniform isn't compulsory everyone wears it - and I think it's sweet as well as practical anyway. So where's the best place for a truly tiny grey pinafore? Tried BHS, M&S, Woolys, even John Lewis. any other ideas? on-line ideas welcome too!

Our official one is the same as John Lewis and goes down to 20". A 22" fits dd who is about 95cm tall. Think you can order the grey on-line, but starts at 24". Otherwise Adams or Asda perhaps ?

what am I like? I must have walked past Adams, (as well as noticing that Mothercare had moved). I was so engrossed in crossing things off my shoppinglist - which I had carefully put on my new phone and hence was childishly excited about - that I failed to look around me, which would have probably been more helpful

OHHH OHHH OHHHH hatstand coeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I know they are pinafores but I am selling grey school skirts from really ikkle to really big. they are £2 or 3 for £5......

Hatstand, have you tried Debenhams? I found their school stuff comes up "small" on DD (it was the summer dress, though, but the same might apply for the pinnys).

fairydust · 08/09/2005 23:00

DD is a very skinny 3 yr old and i got all her skirts etc from m&s

hatstand · 09/09/2005 00:04

no Debenhams near us, and M&S had nothing. I'm just a dimwit who left it too late and wondered round town today with her eyes shut. But thanks everyone - I've now got Adams and Mothercare to check out. Failing that I can get in the car and head for Tesco and/or Asda . there's still hope. vaunda - my heart is set on a dress. and I have a habit of going to ludicrous lengths to get what I set my heart on. (well, when it involves shopping, anyway - which, bizarrely enough I hate)

have you got any small independent shops that sell kids clothes/uniform near you??

I had great trouble finding trousers to fit DS1 - he's not short (actually tall for his age) but if the length was right the waist was too tight, and if the waist was right they were too long.

Ended up buying from a little shop in town.

What about the school uniform?

when my charge started nursary a year ago she was still in 12 - 18 months clothes!

(shes now 3, and anything in a size larger than 2-3 is way too big!, most 18 - 24months is fine!)

saying that in the nursray uniform was optional and only about half of them wore it (she didint!) but they did have some TINY clothes, so i can only assume it came from the uniform shop

Sorry was supposed to say "the school uniform SHOP!!!"
