i woul duse a bit of muslin cloth! that way if you lose it you can always get another one

ds has a kaloo rabbit which he loves and always sleeps with. i keep meaning to buy another one in case it disappears!

geekgrrl · 08/09/2005 13:21

vicky, ds has loved his 'yaya' since he was a tiny baby. He used to half-drape it over his face and go to sleep. He still cuddles it now when in his cot. It's well-made by Steiff who a very reputable company, a good price (£13) and machine washable at 40 degrees. I bought a second one when I realised how much he loves it. They do other really cute styles, too.

Ds uses my hair as his comforter. Not to be recommended, extremely uncomfortable leaning over his cot & pushchair and he will not go to sleep without it!

use a muslin honestly, easy to replace...
my dd grabbed her cousins Winnie the Pooh blanket 2 yrs ago and has never been parted from it since, we have had some amazing returns of it when lost as well...

Ladymuck · 08/09/2005 13:50

I have to say that my two "chose" their own - so you may find that your first choice isn't theirs...

bakedpotato · 08/09/2005 14:09

I'm the mother of two muslin extremists.
DS got put to bed with his every nap from about 12 wks. Now he reaches for it when I put him in his cot. Pulls it over his eyes/chews it lovingly.
DD is also attached to muslins: however, she likes hers with labels which tend to get tugged off over time. So when DS was born, I dyed the rejects apple green for easy identification. He's never going to get the chance to love those labels [evil].

I vote for muslin cloths....

you can (afford to) have LOADS and WASH them regulary! (more than 1 a day if necessary)

they all look the same and are easily replaced!

misdee · 08/09/2005 22:20

dd1 was very attached to her penguin blankie. even now it gets bougt out when she is unwell and for snuggles. she is 5.

dd2 loves her eeyore and other cuddlies.

dd3 favourite comforter is my necklace. she grabs it and chews it. (good job its a b/f necklace then)

jamiesam · 08/09/2005 22:23

Hi
Two blankie addicts here - both ds's have two blankies, different types for each ds, I'm afraid ds1 and I encouraged ds2 in his blankie addiction. They are reasonably clean but a muslin would be so much more portable/replaceable etc. Ds1 chose his blankie so you may not have any choice in the matter. Second the comment re labels - that's what ds1 really likes about his blankie (ds2 liked his labels so much he ate his )

starshaker · 08/09/2005 22:23

my dd has a humphreys corner balanki with the teething bit she loves it but prefers to chew on his nose

starlover · 08/09/2005 22:31

this is the one linus has, and he loooooooooooves it! he snuggles it at bedtime. in fact, he won't go to sleep without it.
am just about to buy another one!

woosmummy · 08/09/2005 22:45

babywoo loves taggie blanket(£10), but he really only seems to cuddle up with muslin cloth by the morning.

Mummyvicky · 09/09/2005 10:18

Thanks Everyone- It seems that comforters are very personal to the child..as he's only 11 weeks, Ill stick with muslins, and when he's older let him choose one for himself
Thank you !!

my ds has a massive fake burberry check blanket that was bought for him as a joke! the ugliest thing ever. It has to be carried around with him every where and it is probably the size of a single bed fleece! The lady in marks and spencers was laughing yesterday and said to him 'are you not hot under there?' but he has to have it! haha

starlover · 09/09/2005 10:39

lol laughinglil! poor you!
the little boy i used to look after had this masssive knitted blanket in bright pink and blue that he took everywhere... again, about the size of a single bed!

LIZS · 09/09/2005 10:45

dd (4) has had Teddy since birth. She has chewed and sucked her way through the blue and cream layers so have managed to purloin some of the blue printed fabric from the company and am reconstructing him whilst she is at school !
