Gael Garcia Bernal, he's the good looking one of the two blokes in it.

I use Amazon and have found them to be great. I suppose there is a slight pressure you watch your quota but I view this as quitre positive - never get around to watching films otherwise.

The thing I like best though is the fact we can get loads of kids films and they watch them again and again, but when they stop we swap for another one rather than filling up the cupboards.

the only thing I don't like about the rental by post thing is that its hard to browse the same way - no mooching at the back of the box to find a good film. But I do look at the new films section in the library to keep a look out and I check out the mumsnet film review threads - have picked up on some really good ones that way. I've also started watching the trailers. And I suppose in a really positive way I've started talking to people about films and asking them to recommend which I never did before.

So all in all I've say its pretty good. We always have something in to watch. The kids are happy and at the end of the day if you feel its not worth it you just stop. I'd hate to stop though as I'd stop watching films.

Blockbuster were rubbish to us, all the dvds were scratched or unplayable, they debited money twice and we have yet to be refunded (8 weeks on)
Look at the freeipods thread, I use screen select and the service is excellent!

We use Blockbuster and since terrestrial and satellite TV are not working have only watched DVDs for the last several months! So money well spend. I figure that the cost is similar to Tesco - again 3 at a time and no limit per month. Occasionally scratched - but not as much as others have suggested (in our experience). Remember you don't have to stick to films. Nature, comedy etc also included. Blockbuster site is easy to navigate and set up. Cheers.

We did the Screen Select free trial. But we didn't like not knowing which film we'd get so cancelled after the trial was up.

Have just joined the amazon one..... it was the cheapest at just under £6 per month with a quota of 3 dvd's per month (only 1 out at a time). I figure that even if DH & I can't think of any to rent, I can always get a disney classic for dd to use up the monthly quota

zippitippitoes · 08/09/2005 09:38

I shall definitely consider one of these then, we rent out every week at the moment so will be filling our qouta ...thanks (still not sure which one to go for, but there don't sem to be any major drawbacks)

Am considering using amazon - especially as you also get 10% off dvd purchases. Will be useful for Christmas.
Do you get sent any off your (vast?) list or can you prioritise which are your favourites? Once you've had a film does it get scratched from your list or have you ever been sent one twice?

Roobie · 23/09/2005 12:23

We use ScreenSelect - the £7.99/month 2 at a time (although limited to 4 per month) package. Not had any problems so far although it is pretty meaningless marking your selection in order of preference as you always end up getting the oldest, less popular stuff before the new releases. We don't mind however as we want to see all the films in our queue anyway.

ionaming · 23/09/2005 12:45

Hiya, we use Amazon - £5.99 for 3 dvd's per month. You add dvd's to your rental list in order of priority. Once one has been dispatched, it gets automatically removed from your list. It's very easy to re-order your list at anytime & there is a current status against each dvd showing if they are in stock, short wait, long wait etc. Delivery is really fast & once they've received a returned dvd, the next one on your list is sent out the same day.

I did find that the last 2 we received were a bit scratched & wouldn't play on our main dvd player, but this is ultra-sensitive anyway & a common problem However, they played fine on our playstation 2!

Thanks. I've gone with amazon and the £5.99 band. Am now making my list!

I tried Sainsburys, which were quite good, £7.97 for one per time, we used to rent out 6 from them until they got a bit slower, good trial period though.

Used Tesco and have gone back to them as they also do a free trial period, and are incredibly quick we have the same price and get one at a time, this is the second dvd we have had this week, find them really good and earn points from them. Thought about Amazon but we like to get as many as we can for the price.
