lightweight pushchairs

I want to buy a pushchair for my 6 month old. I currently have a Mama and Papas 2 in 1 which has been great but my back is giving up with having to lift it plus a three year old around as well.
I am torn between a Maclaren techno and vogue, weight and ease of lifting in and out of a car is important. As these both score highly in the product testing I was wondering if any mum's out there have any additional views/experiences.
I have also found the techno on sale for £126.99 can anyone better that.

Morgie, try www.kiddicare.com. Stompy recommended them on another thread. They will beat any price, so they claim, so find the site and give them a ring.

I ordered my mclaren daytripper (highly recommended and weighs much less than either the Vogue or Techno) from twoleftfeet.co.uk and it arrived very promptly and with free delivery. I think the Techno costs 139.99 and the Vogue is 120 or so.

Yep I've had lots of things from Kiddicare - all at amazing prices, free delivery - and good after sales service when i had a problem - I'm a fan!!!Try them....

I've just bought a Mothercare Mambo stroller, suitable from birth for my almost 3 year old. he had destroyed his old one through his size and weight, and Mummys bags of shopping!!!

So far it seems pretty good, it has pneumatic wheels, and has its own pump, has raincover etc etc, and looks quite nice too.

I had to decide between this and the Maclaren Techno, and plumped for this on three main points. Mambo is wider across the shoulders (I've a large son), it is £50 cheaper, and it has better padding. My son is really pleased and has told everyone about 'his buggy'. Hope this has been of some help.

just for information/comparison, we just bought a Maclaren Techno at Tesco in Stevenage for £89.95
(we were shopping for one in John Lewis and someone who overheard us mentioned the deal at Tesco)

Lizzer · 15/01/2002 22:38

Sandfly-that's fantastic my friend is after one (after usiing mine for a day!) and I'd said I'd ask on here. The only thing is we're a million miles away from you, but do have a Tesco extra down the road, will be inquiring. You don't happen to know if its all over the country do you?

Ems · 16/01/2002 11:10

Lizzer, they may do it on website or mail order if you have no luck down the road.

About pushchairs - my children are now grown up so it's ages since I used or bought one. But I see them around all the time and I do wonder why they aren't made so that the child and the person pushing can see each other. Maybe there is a choice and I just haven't seen a face-to-face version. I think I would like to be able to see the expressions and reactions on my child's face and to be able to exchange words. And it must be a bit alarming sometimes to be pushed into the road first . . .

I had a friend over the other day who has a Peg Perego - and it can go either way - the sun was shining in her son's face, so she just flipped a switch, pushed the handle over, and walked with him facing her...

Wonderful piece of equipment - starts as a pram, supports an infant car seat, and converts to a full size stroller. She has minor things with it she doesn't love (it isn't very lightweight), but is mostly very happy with it.

Janus · 09/04/2002 21:02

JoAnne, any idea where she got this from??? My daughter hates the sun in her eyes (screams full blast in the car if it gets her!) so this would be a good idea (am looking to buy a new stroller).
Many thanks.

Peg Perego are Mamas and Papas in the UK - what model was it?

Pena, one thought about the Volo - it doesn't have a recline. As your baby will be only 6mths, might this be a problem? If you need a recline, you could think about the Daytripper instead.

florenceuk · 09/04/2002 22:15

Whoops, confused two threads - sorry. Actually I've just bought a Techno off the Kiddicare site for £79.99 as it is the unpopular Astro Blue colour - but much much cheaper than the new model out this year.

JoAnne427 · 10/04/2002 03:17

Janus, she purchased it here in the US - (www.babycatalog.com). I think it is the tourist carriage/stroller...you may be able to purchase where you are for a much lower cost...I think they paid $350 USD for it...I would be curious how much they are in the UK...

JoAnne427 · 10/04/2002 03:22

Janus - sorry, had the model wrong - I went on www.mamasandpapas.com/uk - she has the venezia travel system...HTH!
