Child's sewing basket????

I know I sound like a right old fuddy-fuddy, but when I was dd's age I was given (and loved) a small sewing basket filled with coloured threads and buttons and so on. I think dd (who's 7) might really enjoy something similar, or so I try to convince myself) but haven't seen anything like it for years. I have tried internet searching without luck, and don't really want a vintage one off eBay. I don't suppose anyone has seen anything like it anywhere, have they?
Thanks.

I should imagine John Lewis would have something like that. Are you near one?

Lonelymum · 02/09/2005 20:23

Or just a good old fashioned haberdashery shop?

tamum · 02/09/2005 20:25

Very near, but only adult ones everywhere I've looked. The one I had was very girly, pale blue silk lining, flowers, that kind of thing. I could always try and decorate an adult one though, couldn't I? Thanks!

I know you said no Ebay - but these are all new (if that worked)

tamum · 02/09/2005 20:29

Thanks, I don't mind eBay as such (says she with 200 feedback rating). I am just hankering to get a little girly one, and they're all a bit grown up, but I may well have to modify my wants

I did this for dd1 last Christmas when she was 9, and it was a great hit.

I went to John Lewis and bought the empty workbox (there wasn't a huge choice, but there were a few that were girly and a bit funky, rather than middle-aged and fuddy-duddy). I then filled it with bits from the haberdashery dept needles, threaders, cottons, silks, scissors etc. Be warned it added up quite quickly! But she loved it and has used it a lot.

I would imagine Jenners would have something similar?

I think it would be a lovely thing to make yourself, then you can choose rthe bits and pieces to suit...I loved sewing when i was little and carried on with it...

tamum · 02/09/2005 20:32

I wish I'd kept mine actually, that would have been the answer!

Thanks frogs, I am suitably inspired. It was all the stocked up bits that I loved. Actually, it would be great fun. Jenners isn't bad, but the haberdashery isn't all it used to me. Between that and JL I'll be fine though

(I'm the same zippi, so I am hoping to pass it on!).

how about these ?

tamum · 02/09/2005 20:45

Oh fab, thanks so much! They would be great. If they don't have them in my local JL I can just order them. (Not sure what to call you, Blank sound a bit rude and offhand).
