I'd say the one for 11quid was pretty much just a lump of plastic on poles tbh, sorry if anyone has it and I'm prepapred to stand corrected, but, hmmmm, the 36quid one looks safer, sturdier etc

laughinglil · 30/08/2005 21:31

the second one doesn't look it! big plank of wood where the childs back is! hope there are inserts for that one!

Thomcat · 30/08/2005 21:34

Can't see either of those having inserts.

Can you stretch to a trip trapp? They last for ever, go past highchairs and are then just adjustable dining chairs for kids. Expensive but worth it imo.

RachD · 30/08/2005 21:35

I hope they do have inserts that you can buy - they look very hard & uncomfortable, don't they ?

IlanaK · 30/08/2005 21:38

We use the white plastic ones at the nursery I own. We have had the same set in the baby room since we opened 6.5 years ago. They are incredibly sturdy, easy to clean, and perfectly comfortable. The one thing I would say though is that they are not good for little ones who are only just learning to sit up as they do not have enough support. Also, at the time we bought them, you had to buy the tray and the straps seperately. I would highly recommend them though.

IlanaK · 30/08/2005 21:38

Forgot to say - I use tripp trapps for both my kids at home. I highly recommend them too. But obviously, if you are on a budget, or looking for something to use at grandparents house, then the Ikea one is fine.

Fimbo · 30/08/2005 21:43

I have this Ikea highchair (minus insert) which is the same as the ones they have in their restaurants. Its fab and you can attach this . Cleans brilliantly and no awkward corners for food to get trapped in. I got rid of the highchair I already had to get this, ds loves it.

csa · 30/08/2005 21:47

yeah i know what you mean. what's attractive i thought is the simplicity in the design - i.e. no knooks and cranies for food to get stuck in. we had one from mothercare for ds1 and it was such a nightmare to keep clean that i threw it out when he finished with it . so now i am without one for ds2. ha ha. serves me right. so guess it's no votes for the ikea ones. any recommendations then? thomcat, like the look of the tripp trapp but am probably looking for one that we can put away in the garage once we are finished with it rather than use it as a dining chair.

I've got the same one fimbo (but also no insert) Have also got a mamas and papas one but the ikea folds down really small and is a million times easier to clean. Perfect for older babies who can sit up well.

IlanaK · 30/08/2005 21:48

Hey! I thought I voted for the Ikea one! Maybe I wasn't clear in my post!

NannyL · 30/08/2005 21:48

a few times ive tried out the 1st white one in variouse restaurants etc!

have to say was not overly impressed... seemed uncomfy, and i wouldnt want to use one more than occasionaly!

im sure there are some much comfier high chairs around!

csa · 30/08/2005 21:52

hee hee. sorry. took too long to type that you beat me to it. so, the ikea ones are back in the running . was it the plastic one or the wooden one that got the vote?

OP posts:
anchovies · 30/08/2005 21:54

I vote for fimbos plastic one, you can't see the actual highchair on the website but it's blue plastic and clips onto a folding metal frame

csa · 30/08/2005 21:57

ooo... that will be ideal. to be able to pack it away to the side on a daily basis! will definitely keep a lookout for that one when i go next week. any idea how much it is?

OP posts:
anchovies · 30/08/2005 21:59

Not sure but think it was just a little bit more than the white plastic one (so cheap as chips!)

Fimbo · 30/08/2005 23:23

I think it was roughly about £18 including the tray. It really is a brilliant highchair, that was the only pic I could find on their website. Sorry I can't remember the name of it, but you should find it in their restaurant!

QueenOfQuotes · 31/08/2005 01:36

it's not ikea (or fold away) but we bought this highchair for DS1 - nearly 5yrs ago. We're using the same one (looking virtually brand new!) with DS2 now. VERY sturdy hasn't come anywhere close to tipping over - despite having an extremely active and boisterous DS2 who likes to use it as a climbing frame when it'snot dinner time

I havent bought a high chair for ds. just one of those that strap to seat. Cheaper, last longer and can take it with me!

i think the antilop is fantastic... we've used ours for the last 4 yeras... dd, ds and various friends and babies and it looks as good as new... fantastic to clean, and nice and sturdy. and very comfy (although i can;t vouch for it myself of course! ).. highly recommend it, afte dd got too big for the antilop we got a handysitt which is also a fantastic buy as it goes with us everwhere and it's nice having the kids at the table to eat....

Bagpuss30 · 31/08/2005 08:31

My mum has the antilop and I think it is fab. Far better than our heavy big m&p one. In fact I am so impressed with it that I was considering ditching ours and getting the Ikea one for ds2 when he needs it.

charliecat · 31/08/2005 08:37

I second queenofquotes highchair, it lasted me throught 2 children and looked new when we passed it on. 5 year old could sit up nearer to the table with it and I luch preferit it to the fabric food covered things other people had. I used to hose mine down!!!

csa · 31/08/2005 09:57

thanks. oooooo...... all these possibilities. LOL charliecat. that's exactly how i felt with the previous one. as i said before, was so disgusted by it and as it wouldn't fit into the washing machine , it just HAD TO GO!!!!!

OP posts:
csa · 31/08/2005 09:59

oh, also. am so glad i am getting all these positive vibes for the antilop cos that's my favourite so far.
