Basically just wondered if it is worth the money and if it would get much use.

Dd has been on about it for ages but i'm not sure.

Hmmm maybe the fact that no one has had one is a hint LOL

looks good fun for a creative child TBH

but no experience here

tamum · 28/08/2005 20:00

I got dd the knitting machine the same people make last year and it was a pile of poo. Very hard to get it to work and it broke almost immediately. I would steer well clear to be honest- it looks more complicated than the knitting machine, so more stuff to go wrong!

Miaou · 28/08/2005 20:03

I will watch this thread with interest - dd2 has just been asking if she can use my sewing machine but I have told her she must wait until she is 10, so this could be a compromise.

Have to say, it does look a little limited in scope - I would want to know if it would sew a basic seam, for example.

nutcracker · 28/08/2005 20:08

Hmmm it does look creative yeah but it looks like it has loads of fidly bits for dd to loose.

I would rather get her a plain sewing machine than one that says it does 100 different things.

Not sure if anywhere else does just a basic sewingmachine though.

nutty, I had one when I was a child - I'm afraid I hardly used it but I wasn't particularly interested in sewing! I think it would be a good present for a little girl who was keep on that sort of thing though.

tabitha · 28/08/2005 20:19

should say keen not keep

nutcracker · 28/08/2005 20:20

Yeah, she has mentioned it alot but tbh i think she would probably get fed up pretty quick, like with the badge it thing she had last year.

I have seen them for sale somewhere nutty ... ie a child's version of a proper sewing machine ... will have a search and see if I can come up with one.

Miaou · 29/08/2005 13:54

oooooh lookee here

aquamanda · 29/08/2005 13:56

I think it will be a big disappointment, chain stitch gets in knots and jams up really easily and if it is successful it unravels really easily...so more likely to put her off.

Second hand sewing machines are really cheap and much more likely to keep her interest

LIZS · 29/08/2005 14:08

Agree with aquamanda. Just seen it advertised on the tv and wonder what happens when the fancy bits run out. Looks rather insubstantial too. You could perhaps get a reconditioned regular machine instead. Have a look on Yellow Pages for any traditional sewing shops which may trade second hand machines.

Miaou · 29/08/2005 14:09

Look at my link below, folks - there are loads for sale on ebay at the moment.

aquamanda · 29/08/2005 14:12

I wouldn't buy one from ebay because unless you know what to do they are a pig to fix and so a local shop where you can see one working like Liz says is better...but of course they won't look as pretty as the one she has her eye on!!!
