a fisher price garage

Anything with wheels ! Seriously, a sit on and ride type toy or trike with push handle, simple car/train play set (like Fisher Price Little People or ELC Happy Street, My First Thomas train set) to which family and friends could add over time, or an outdoor toy if you have space such as slide, climber, swing or tunnel.

Agree with LIZS - my dd loved her sit on and ride little tykes toy - good value for a year and half and still plays with it now. Duplo also good - and really comes into it's own in 6 months or so.

I am facing this issue with dd - on Friday. Dh and I want to get her something special that she can keep forever. She was not christened/etc and so we felt that something - keepsake or something that she has for a long time. We don't want to get a large plaything as it will not be able to come with us when we emigrate.

Lucie - for your ds - something outdoors that perhaps can be added too - swing, slide. ELC do a frame that various things can be added to. Friends bought one for their daughter - now has a slide, swing, monkey bars and canopy.

we had a nice photo done of the three of us and also bought dd a bracelet as a keepsake, on her first birthday we also had her christened as a way to celebrate her first year of life(and what a struggle that was!)and so a big party with all family and friends afterwards

We are also facing the same dilemma, DD is 1 on Friday and we still don't know what to get her. She has lots of toys and clothes. We don't want to get anything for the garden yet as we will be moving next year (hopefully) into a brand new house so will get garden playthings then. A ride on toy sound like a good idea though.

DD got lots of lovely pressies for her first birthday in April. Her favourites at the moment are a little toy kitchen set, a doll's pusshchair, a toy washing machine and a cleaning set. What have we done??? She has gone all girly and we used to let her have access to a whole range of toys - regardless of gender specifics. These are her faves at nursery too!

She also has a ball pool/tent which her and her little 'boy' friend adore playing inside.

DS will be 1 next Saturday. We have got him a Chicco sit and ride toy thing (with parent handle, activity tray, etc) and a Fisher Price 'little people' train set (though I wish I'd got the garage as it looks more fun). His granny has bought him a fisher price little people bus. I like the idea of being able to add components to make it more interesting for him as he gets older.

Other things which he would love are Mega Blocks. He's got the farm one and loves the animals, any sort of chunky car as he loves to push them around. He's getting some bath toys from his aunt, which will hopefully encourage him to sit down.

I'm hoping he gets some clothes as he's starting to grow out of a lot of his current stuff and I've been putting off buying anything until after his birthday as DH's family tend to go a bit overboard when it comes to presents for DS.

I like books for babies. They can last a lifetime and be heirlooms if you like, or just be a source of pleasure now and for the next few years. Ds isn't crazy about toys but loves his books.
