Do you upgrade dummy?

DDs now 4m and still having her first dummy for newborn bought from Tesco.
I have bought doen dummies but she only likes those pair and recently she keep dropping them and crying after.
They are the cherry ones which not really recommended, but she wouldn`t have those flat ones. I just wondered if i have to upgrade them, cause i have seen 3m+, 6m+ dummies, are they bigger than newborn ones or any other differences?
Thnx

I did

SleepySuzy · 24/08/2005 23:27

I upgraded. They are just bigger, that's all, but I use the flat ones.

My mum got her these round-teated dummies at this local chemists, b/c she rejected the flat ones, when she was about 3 months old. And now I have about 30 of them. I pick them up whenever I see them. She only uses them at night to sleep and for her afternoon nap. She calls it 'dubbeet'.

SherlockLGJ · 24/08/2005 23:29

No seriously, I did and he gave them up in his own good time.

I limited them severely outside the house, and tried to limit them to bed times, or when I was desperate

He gave them up of his own accord.

I upgraded ds1's dummies just because I was a sucker for every bit of baby merchandise going. I don't think it was the slightest bit necessary - the only problem would be using a 6m+ dummy for a newborn as it is bigger, at least the Avent ones are.

diva4mgl · 24/08/2005 23:30

I guess if they are bigger, they may stay
It just really pain in the middle of night she cries for dummy and then she cries cause she lost the dummy... things like that...
So i thought whether her dummies too small and not staying well [ confused]

I wish I could remember what we used for DS.

It was a really short piece of webbing that when he was older than 4 moths but cant remember how old

Oh hold on about a year old.

We used to place it in between the poppers on the babygro and it was too short to choke him, it then cancelled the prob of getting out of bed to search for it.

The other thing I used to do was litter his cot with dodies, he nearly always managed to find one.

colditz · 24/08/2005 23:43

LOL I used to place dummies strategically around ds's head, one in each hand, and one in his mouth. I also had a few on my bedside cabinet

colditz · 24/08/2005 23:44

I used cherry soothers from about day 4. He hated the flat ones with a passion. the strange thing is, he doesn't mind them now!

expatinscotland · 24/08/2005 23:46

What's the 'cherry' one? Is that the one w/the round teat? DD HATED the flat ones. But she lurves the round ones.

We put some in her cot in case she wakes at night.

colditz · 24/08/2005 23:48

yes, the round ones. I always swore my child would not have a dummy. He is 2.4 and still has one at night! I don't care though, he loves it.

expatinscotland · 24/08/2005 23:51

DD only has it to sleep. She's not interested in it otherwise. She's 2.2 and she loves it, too. She'll outgrow it eventually, as she will her bottle. We're in no rush for her to grow up too fast, so we let her do everything in her own time.

She HATED those flat ones. I came across one the other day and remembered how she's spit them out, red-faced and crying.

SherlockLGJ · 24/08/2005 23:54

Colditz............

So did I

But as the regulars will know, I had a very hard time after DS was born.

Struggled with the dodie thing, then my darling Mum asked me how many 4 year olds I knew that sucked their thumb ??

Eh........ several

How many 4 year olds do you know took a dodie to school on their first day ??

Eh................none

I love my Mummy.

diva4mgl · 25/08/2005 00:00

yeah, cherry one is big around one, which all mw and hv say dont use it[ annoyed] my mum and mil say they all used them cherry ones for us and we dont have that ugly teeth [ proud]
Personally there is nothing wrong having dummy, its just comfort for some babies, and lets face all babies different, some might hate it and some love it
LoL
