ds2 is only 5 months but we will need a new car seat very soon as he is hanging over the edge of his rearward one. we will be waiting for the right weight b4 we move him but in the mean time i need some advice.

We have a daewoo tacuma that has really short seatbelts in the back, anyone else have short seat belts and if so, which car seat do u use?

Ideally i would like a seat that will last a long long time as money is VERY short but i don't want it to be humongous

any ideas?

check the britax site www.britax.co.uk for a fit-finder.

britax elite?

NannyL · 24/08/2005 20:17

In the WHICH report the mai cosy priory / maxi cosy priori XP got VERY good results, and the Britax renaissance is a FANTASTIC seat with a belt tensioner that makes it VERY difficult to not fit properly (and apperantly nearly 1/2 of car seats are NOT fitted properly so wont protect the children in a crash)

both of these will last until your child is about 4 years or 18kg

The M&P Pro tec has a v. good rating with Which. It lasts until 4yrs. Have you had a look at Kiddicare they sometimes have good deals

Note that he should also be able to sit up steadily as well as be the correct weight. Unfortunately lots of children are hanging over before they get to this point.

Also length of seat belts much less of an issue with the next stage of car seats because they only go across the back of the seat (use less than an average person) rather than right round the seat like a first stage seat.

Whether you need a new seat depend on which end he is hanging over! If his head is still in the seat he is fine! It doesn't matter at all if his legs are a bit flexed up- he won't be uncomfortble and he will be MUCH safer staying in his stage 1 seat facing rearwards for as long as possible.

sorry its taken me soo long to reply. i had forgottenm i had posted this

looked at the FAB britax site and got a few recommendations from their fit finder but i had also looked at the maxi cosi priory anyway, thanks NannyL.

tissy, it is his legs hanging over albeit only just but we are VERY VERY short of cash at mo so rather than have him dangerously too big for his seat before we thought about getting a new seat, we needed to price them up so we can get saving our 2ps (literally )

Thanks for all advice

The Britax First Class has alternative routing for different sized seat belts.
