Calling all with large babies!

Hi,
I am using mumsnet for the first time and it seems fantastic.
I have a question about baby carriers for large baby's.
My ds is 5 1/2 months old and weighs 25lbs. I have a Mothercare 3 way carrier that he can no longer use due to him having such large thighs and is too tight. Can anyone recommend a front facing carrier (not a back pack) that would be suitable?
Thanks

DD was a tiny one so had the opposite problem of not being able to find a harness she was heavy enough for, but, you might want to look at baby bjorn harnesses - quite pricey but maybe ebay or 2nd hand if needs be - we found ours really supportive. Used it until dd was over 1 yr, BUT at 20 months she still isn't 25lbs - basically she was too wriggly and long for it, and could also walk, but it might be okay for a shorter less active baby. Try emailing baby bjorn for some advice. I think we bought ours over the net through Ollivers. Something supportive like a baby bjorn sounds like a must as that is a lot of weight for your shoulders. Good luck!

We used a carrier that I can,t remember the name of. It can fac in or out and is all fabric with verylong straps that wrap around you back and tie. I'm sure someone knows the name. My babies were big and I had no problem with it.

I just found it hard due to the weight of my children. We also used a shamag (large shawl) to carry them on your hip which I found a bit easier or on your back. DH liked carrying them this way. I prefered the silvercross .

We use a Kelty Kangaroo and have also used one like the one Skribble describes -- the Hug-a-bub (although I believe the Moby wrap is pretty much identical and is cheaper).

she in 6-9m clothes, a bit long at the moment.
bought bumbo from mnner but won`t fit
her thighs too big that turns into blue and she screams. must hurt
nice to hear big babies around cause i do worry sometimes.

diva4mgl · 24/08/2005 10:24

skribble do you mean wilkinet baby carrier. its fabric, mostly soft cord with long straps with no clps and adjustment.
i have one but dd hates it since 2months.i find it easy to use, but she seems doesnt like it.
she loved it when she was little, she used to go sleep, she looked comfy and cosey. i guess its something to do with her body weight.

Skribble · 24/08/2005 23:09

Wilkinet, thats the one. DS was hug and seemed to like facing forwards, plenty room for legs.

I used a babybjorn babysling until my dds were 18 months - was fine & comfy for them.
