Husband admitted he has a problem

He's 48. So am I. Last few times we've done it he only gets a semi and has to finish by hand. He does satisfy me first though. But what now? Should he try viagra? He's really embarrassed about it and I know he won't relish the thought of seeing a GP over it. I want to help and reassure him but not make him feel worse or pressured. Any advice welcome.

Admitting he has a problem is the 1st step.

ED in his 40’s can be precursor to other health issues, so a GP visit or general health check up is probably in order.

in the UK there are lots & lots of options available with no prescription needed.
Boots, Lloyds, Superdrug all have online options , Numan, hims, lots of options are available

have him get some blood work done to check things over , make sure they include testosterone in it as most likely he is low in that hormone.

My friend had the same problem with her hubby. You can get viagra over the counter here in UK. She bought some. It worked. After about 5 minutes of rubbing his penis it was apparently really hard. I would try this before you take medical advice.

Wakemeup17 · 03/01/2024 16:56

What's wrong with talking to the GP? It's not exactly like he is the only person with that problem, have you seen Pfizer's stock prices?

CplT · 03/01/2024 18:09

Also take things like stress into account. It can ruin your mindset. I had an episode a few years ago and realised that my mind was 'not on the job' when Viagra didn't work so well but a bottle of wine worked wonders. You really have to be relaxed and enjoying yourself. Novelty also comes into it.

Rainbowhairanddontcare · 03/01/2024 18:52

Thanks all. I don't think it's stress related. He said he still feels the same in himself and wants sex etc but his penis doesn't always comply! I thought viagra was a tablet? Didn't realise it was a cream? That sounds good. You know what men are like with doctors! He would prefer not to but I know he would if no other option.

It is a tablet. I’ve never heard of Viagra cream. I think you’ve misunderstood the previous post.

Viagra is a tablet! ( among others pills ), but you don’t just get an erection, the person still needs to want to have sex !, I think that’s what the “rubbing” refers to.

there is a new to the market cream as well now

Omg Viagra is bloody marvellous, get some. He does not need to feel embarrassed in the slightest, this is a physical problem and the cure is safe and effective. Get generic sildenafil rather than Viagra, it's less expensive. Available at chemists over the counter, he can go to one further away if he's concerned, but staff are very used to selling it. They sometimes ask questions re blood pressure etc, and if there are no problems you can ask them to give you a little certificate that says you're ok to use it, so you don't have to keep doing the quiz every time you need a new pack.

I cut the tablets in half, it's plenty. If you take it on an empty stomach, it becomes effective after about 15 minutes, but if you've eaten recently it'll be longer, more like 45-60 mins for full effect. It doesn't make you hard, you still have to feel sexy for that! What it does is keep you hard once you've got there, although if you completely lose focus on sex it'll lose its effect after a minute or two; you're never stuck with a stiffy that won't go down!

Honestly, the first time I took it (half a tablet & for masturbation rather than sex as I was unsure how it would affect me) I wanted to sing 'Happy Days Are Here Again'! No side effects.

Viagra can be fantastic, but it isn't widely known that it works in only about 65-70% of cases. In that group for whom it does work after about 2 years approximately 25% will develop a tolerance to it and discover it to be far less effective.

It is definitely worth trying though.

You can't buy it over the counter like hair dye, he would have had to go and get it and answer questions first, not her.

Rainbowhairanddontcare · 04/01/2024 08:34

Thank you for clarification re viagra. I did misread the other post yes! Definitely worth trying though.

He really needs to see the GP. At 48 he should have had a least 2 Well Man check ups anyway. Erection problems can be a sign of much greater issues such as high BP, high cholesterol and hormone imbalances.

Tell him to Man Up and get an appointment.

Fiery30 · 04/01/2024 17:43

It could be a physical problem and therefore consulting a doctor first is important. This is not the time to be stubborn and say men will be men. Sometimes taking the focus off intercourse and engaging in extended foreplay helps too.

Telling a man to “Man Up” is a really bad idea as I once discovered. I was shouted at for about an hour (relentlessly!).

But yes, definitely worth a check up.

Sothisiit · 18/01/2024 06:08

It would be better for him to book an appointment at the GP. Masking the issue with Viagra might lead to other possible medical issues going undiagnosed.
Of course use Viagra so you can enjoy intimacy but seek medical help/ guidance too.

Namechangefromholiday · 18/01/2024 07:46

I hope Viagra works but I want to reinforce what another post has said, at that age this can really be a health warning and he must get checked out
