Are you supposed to use a new condom everytime you change position during the same session?

My bf and I have been using the Red durex thin feel condoms, we use one per sex session even though we do different positions during the same session. Are we supposed to change condoms if he pulls out and we do a different position? Sorry I know its a bit crude but don't know what other way to put it.

The reason I'm asking is that twice I've noticed bits of the condom in my room the next day amd when I checked one of the condoms after I noticed it was broken at the top.
Maybe he's not putting the on right? I've no idea, but they are Durex so they really shouldn't be splitting like this.

Ok, you can definitely use the same condom during one 'session' even if you change positions. The important thing is that he squeezes the tip when putting it on so there's no air in it and secondly, if pulling out completely it's a good idea to hold the base of the condom when withdrawing just make sure it stays fully on. Other than that you should be fine, I agree finding 'bits' of the condom in the bed afterwards is a bad sign. Are you only using water based lubricant? Oil based ones can damage the condom so be careful.

@tdh1972 yes I'm worried now that maybe he's not putting it on properly, I don't watch him while he puts them on but maybe I should! We weren't using any lube either so no idea what has happened. It's a bit unnerving.

Broken condoms sounds strange. For the first years of marriage our first contraceptive choice was condoms and I never, ever experienced a broken one.

Condoms, even "thin feel" are normally made of latex which is elastic and very strong. As @tdh1972 said you certainly need to be making sure that they are being put on correctly but even so a properly made condom shouldn't easily break. Although I agree with you that Durex are a highly reputable brand.

And no you don't need to change a condom each time you change position, just make sure it doesn't slip off which it might possibly do if his erection subsides at any point when you are moving position.

Agree with others….. changing positions should be fine but hold the base to make sure it stays in place. In 28years of sexual activity I’ve never experienced a broken or split one so I would think that is strange.

Which Durex ones are you using?, I have had the thin ones split before, if you are worried go for the Extra Safe, they are bit thicker.
Echo other posters comments about making sure there is no air in tip as it goes on and making sure he gets hold of it the end if when he withdraws.
a little water based lube can help - but ensure it’s applied once he is wearing the condom.

I was a regular condom user when I was single, and echo all the other comments. I never insisted on changing the condom when changing positions but always checked it was still on OK - and watched them put it on in the first place to check that as well. I did have a couple of condoms left in me at the end, because the guy left it too long before pulling out and didn't hold the base of the condom as he did so. But never had one break.
I think you need to talk about what's happening with your bf, because it's really important that you're using them properly, especially if they're your only form of contraception. All the best, and stay safe!

I have been safely using condoms for many years and never considered asking someone to change during one "celebration". As others have said, make sure they are put on properly and, in addition watch your nails.

I'd suggest you both familiarise yourselves with the instructions provided in the box.
It's important to expel air from the end teat and that there is plenty of lubrication, either natural or a compatible water based one.
You should be able to use one condom for multiple positions, they can split during rigous action without lubrication. If they become dry, change for a new one to avoid the risk of a split.

I’d be fumbling with it excessively? Some men, and certainly not all, have been known to tamper with condoms despite the agreement between partners to use them.

Im asking this because you’ve found pieces of torn condom. They really won’t break within the realms of normal sex with adequate lubrication other than in very isolated cases.

Should read — Is he fumbling with it…..

In order to ensure that your boyfriend is putting on the condom correctly, you could do it yourself and incorporate it into foreplay.

The only time that you need to change a condom when changing positions is when moving from anal to vaginal/oral sex, and to a lesser extent the other way around as there are bacteria that cause no issues when in the place where they normally live but cause all sorts of problems when transferred elsewhere.

If a session lasts longer than 30 minutes, then the advice is to use a fresh condom as friction does weaken them.

The other thing to be aware of is using the correct lube. Most condoms will fail if used with an oil-based lube, so make sure it is water-based if you are using a lubricant. Even the grease on fingers from a KFC meal can cause a condom to fail.

I used to work as an adviser for the Terrence Higgins Trust and this was the advice they used to promote pre-Covid. It may have changed since, but I don't think so.

@Worried201

well for sure new one if you change orifice!
haha

BrimFullOfAsher · 08/01/2023 19:02

Why would you find bits of condom around your room though? Surely if there was an issue with them or they were breaking during sex you have bits inside you, not in your room?
