Pull out method

So….

My partner and I have been using the pull out method for nearly two years now and (how we have managed this, I do not know) we have been okay.

We both know the consequences and so are fully aware what we are getting ourselves into. I am not on any form of contraception because I don’t like it and he hates condoms! Well, we both do! We have an amazing sex life and a lot of sex and we both don’t want that to end.

We both havnt decided if we want another one yet. He’s 43 and we need to decide on the next few years. He has said once’s we have decided or I end up getting pregnant, then he’s going to have the snip! But for now, we don’t want to rule that out….

However, we have got a lot going on right now and although if I did get pregnant (it wouldn’t be great at all!) we would sort it out and be strong. It wouldn’t be ideal, be we would love the baby and work it out together.

I do kind of want one, but timing right now, would make things very tricky for our lives.

However this is stopping us from having all the unprotected sex.

We are very good at tracking. I am quite regular and I track everything very throughly. When I know that Im 100% not ovulating, ie just before my period, I will let him cum inside, but other than that he pulls out. Which he is very good at doing. This has worked for two years now….im just wondering are we playing with fire here…

I know in a sense we are…

But has anyone got pregnant from this method?

Perhaps even when your partner clearly pulled out?!

Oh ffs. Millions of babies have been conceived using this “method”. Don’t have unprotected sex unless you and your partner have actively decided that you both want to bring another child and are in a financial position to do so.

Of course you're playing with fire! If you're not in a position to have a baby right now, then use contraception.

Not sure what you mean by "I don't like it"... There are options other than hormones if that's what you mean. Have you considered a cap?

cookiecreammmpie · 07/11/2022 19:38

It worked for me but I have very regular cycles and we would only do it when I knew I wasn't in the fertile stage of my cycle, otherwise I'd use a condom. The minute we stopped doing it and I let him stay inside I fell pregnant so that suggests it worked for me...but I wouldn't suggest doing it if you're strictly against the idea of having a baby as sometimes cycles mess up, people miscalculate etc.

Crikey, you are playing with fire! Of course you are can get pregnant with this method. Basic biology I think.

Christmaslover2022 · 07/11/2022 20:42

We did this for 2 years between babies but we're fine if I got pregnant. Wouldn't have done it if we didn't want a baby! I didn't get pregnant until we tried to but it's really not a great reliable method if you don't want a baby!

You’re definitely playing with fire. DS was conceived (2 months after DD was born🫠) even though we used the pull out method. Better to use contraception - condoms at the very least

Our third came along unexpectedly due to bad tracking and a reluctance to withdraw from me.

she’s amazing and I’m so glad we have her.

At the time it was a massive shock as our youngest boy was only 17 months.

I’ve now recently had a vasectomy before number four happened.

Im concerned that sex may not be as thrilling for either of us long term. I think the risk is a turn on, if somewhat irresponsible.

Mydoggosarethebest · 08/11/2022 00:11

It's worked very well for me for the last 5 years! I understand lots of women do indeed get pregnant using the pull out method though. On fertile days use condoms to be extra safe

StarlightLady · 08/11/2022 07:56

How can you have enjoyable quality sex when every time there is an underlying fear of pregnancy?????

I don't like hormonal contraception and what it does to me. I.For that reason, I can't remember the last time I had sex without a condom but it was many, many years ago. I always carry a few in my handbag too. On occasion I have "loaned" them to friends, when out and about, although they never give you another one back. You say that you don't like them but surely the little inconvenience etc is worth the peace of mind?

Coffeeandcake15 · 08/11/2022 08:42

Withdrawal method is not a reliable form of contraception. If you want to avoid pregnancy then you need to use contraception, either in the hormonal form or condoms.

Absolute opposite for us, massive turn on having spontaneous sex with out having in the back of your mind, you must/he must withdraw.

Not me, but 2 friends conceived 7 and 10 years after their ‘last’ child - both husbands had the snip after! Def playing with fire… but it’s ok if you don’t mind an accident too much. (One friend was very upset, took a while coming to terms with pregnancy)
I used a diaphragm 20 years ago - perfect non-hormone solution. Is this not used any more?

Meklk · 21/11/2022 07:50

We used this method 7 years - no pregnancies. I even thought one of us should have problems with infertility. When we decided to have a child - I got pregnant on first time. After that we used this method again and I got pregnant (unplanned) after 3 years.

altmember · 21/11/2022 16:44

Yes, it's obviously a risky method. But if you're both in agreement that you want a child together at some point (and there's rarely a perfect time for it to happen) then go ahead and tempt fate. You could wait until its a more convenient time and then find you or he is no longer fertile.
