Decreased sensation and length of orgasm

Past few months my orgasms have become less intense and shorter. I’m 47 and on HRT. Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything that helped or is it something I have to accept happens with age?😔

If you've found this page in your search of orgasm gels and orgasm lubes that have been recommended by fellow Mumsnet users, you might find our guide to the best orgasm gels useful. Hope this helps! MNHQ

Yes me! My clitoris and vulva arent anywhere near as sensitive as they used to be and my orgasms are feeble in comparison to how they were

As I understand it, it's fairly normal with age. It won't be the HRT causing it (in fact it's supposed to increase blood flow to the clitoris, so if anything it should improve things) but it may be that you need to change how you have sex or masturbate.
When masturbating, try experimenting with different sex toys and see if you can find one that intensifies things for you. There's an active thread about that right now.
If you have a male partner are you are able to achieve orgasm with PIV but it doesn't feel as good as it used to, try stimulating the clitoris with a vibrator at the same time, for example in cowgirl or doggy. It may take some adjustment for your partner (and reassurance that he's not doing anything wrong) but he'll go along with it if it means more regular sex. Disappointing orgasms may lead to you not wanting to bother as much (everyone loses in that scenario!)

The falling oestrogen levels will reduce blood flow to the clitoris & vagina, and this can affect the strength and sensation of the orgasms. Vaginal atrophy can occur in perimenopause & menopause.

It's great that you are taking HRT but it could be that you might benefit from some local oestrogen that comes in a cream & you insert it into the vagina with an applicator. You can use HRT alongside the vaginal oestrogen. Maybe have a chat with your GP about it.

That's interesting; Ive just been prescribed Ovestin by my GP as she says I have vaginal/vulvar atrophy. Hope this improves it

@Gatekeeper yes that should help. It can take a little while to work, but hopefully you should see some improvement.

What about Testosterone? I wonder about this also. There must be something better than a cream...

In Dr Louise Newsom's book on menopause there's a whole chapter about vaginal atrophy and sexual function. Advice is basically to use it or lose it! So sex and / or masturbation are important.

Masturbating again dear?
Dr Louise says I must!
Ah that's ok then!

I began to experience this recently, thankfully I was able to turn it back around! I asked my partner to spend a week treating me to ‘tease and denial’ - bringing me to the brink of orgasm then stopping just before tipping point. It seemed to reset my system! It was so frustrating but totally worth it!!

Also, as well as clitoral stimulation I have found G spot and A spot stimulation are inducing deeper and more pleasurable orgasms. Hope this helps!

In my experience this was caused by low testosterone. Got prescribed at the menopause clinic

Maybe consider and research vitamin B12 deficiency too - which affects nerve function.

A short course of injections to correct a clinical deficiency caused a surprisingly unexpected and good orgasmic response - as a side effect.

Currently maintaining B12 levels with oral supplements (Solgar brand in my case after reading reviews)
