Cerazette, Cerelle, Noriday or Norgeston?

I've been offered Cerazette, Cerelle, Noriday or Norgeston.

The only pill I've ever got on with is Microgynon, but apparently I'm too fat and old for that now.

I took Cerazette once, and I had the worst mood swings - I was utterly miserable. As in, rock bottom miserable. I swore never to try it again for my mental health. For comparison, I didn't have any side effects with Microgynon.

Does anyone have any experience of the above brands? I'm particularly concerned about weight gain and mood swings. As mentioned, Microgynon was fine, so if anyone has moved from that to one of the above mini pills, I'd especially love your insight...

Cerelle and cerazette are pretty much the same although cerelle is the cheaper option - both have a 12 hour window to take them

Noriday and Norgeston have different hormones from each other and from cerazette/cerelle and both have a 3 hour window to take them

Norgeston apparently contains the same progestogen as microgynon (levonorgestrel) so maybe try that one

A 12-hour window is more practical, but I don't fancy trying Cerelle after my experience of Cerazette.

Has anyone managed to be prescribed Microgynon after turning 35, or is that just a blanket ban?

It sounds like maybe Norgeston is my best option of a bad bunch - does anyone have any experience with it?

No its not a blanket ban over age 35
If you have risk factors such as higher BMI, high blood pressure or are a smoker then its contraindicated to take combined contraceptives. If you don't have risk factors you can take them until age 50

Thanks for the advice - I'm going to try Norgeston and see how I get on. Keeping fingers crossed this one works for me, as I don't feel comfortable relying on just condoms.

Would you OH consider a Vasectomy so you won't need to take hormonal meds that give you bad side affects.
Obviously only an option if you're both finished on the baby front.

Right in the middle of this age 40....so started cerezelle but just random bleeding all the time. Brown blood just irritating. Plus if you have a weekend away you can't run packs together or have any control. Plus no oestrogen to regulate endometrial lining so super long periods!!! I'm back on microgynon.

OH on waiting list for snip but don't know how long that will be. Combined pill can be prescribed up to age 50

I would suggest looking at a none hormonal coil
