Bladder irritation

Hello,

This is driving me nuts and really need some advice.

So, after I had DD last year it felt like I had a water infection but after taking antibiotics it didn't get any better and there was no sign of one in the samples. It got better but since June I have had three water infections one each month - these happened two days later after having sex with DH.

I am in the same predicament again as for the past week I have had throbbing everytime I empty my bladder and it never eases. I have took painkillers as that sometimes helps, I am off caffeine and drinking a lot of water but still it persists.

Anyone ever experienced this? Did you find out what the cause was?

Has DH got an infection that he's passing to you when you have sex? Might be worth him getting checked out.

Try to pee before and immediately after sex. Make sure that he's washing his fingers or penis if he's touching your anus so there's no transfer of bacteria to your vagina.

It might just be that you have an underlying infection that's never really gone. GP may give you a longer or stronger course of antibiotics to fully clear it.

I don't think he has an infection as this only seems to be reoccurring since having DD. Could be anything though. We have been together 14 years and this is only just happening.

I am waiting on the doctor getting in touch but it will be tomorrow now. I have relapsing - remitting MS too and the MS Nurse has referred me to a urologist but not heard anything back yet. She doesn't think it is MS related.

If antibiotics don't cure this, try reading about pelvic floor dysfunction - it can cause irritation that imitates a UTI. My urologist was fairly useless but private pelvic floor physiotherapy has helped a lot.

Also, d-mannose supplements can help to.prevent recurring UTIs, if it is that.

Yes i feel your pain, i had this after my son. Having never had a UTI in my life , i was suddenly getting one a month . i never did get to the bottom of it, but it stopped after 2 years , i was certain mine was linked to my implant as is pretty much went once i had it removed . d mannose really helped. I have just had my daughter and have not experienced it again

I'm wondering if you're breastfeeding? I have a feeling that your oestrogen levels are lower when you are and if that's the case this could be something to do with it? This is based on when oestrogen levels are low around the menopause you get more UTIs. One reason at menopause is because of thinning tissue etc but another reason (according to the internet) is "with less estrogen in your body, bacterial levels can change, allowing infection to set in". I am just speculating really but could be a connection?

Try daily d mannose for a while, even when it settles down, also an anti histamine might help with symptoms.

You can buy test strips on Amazon and check for infection yourself.

I'm sorry that you are struggling with this @Phoenixwings1989 You've mentioned MS and I wonder if you've ever had a bladder scan. For some people, MS can cause the bladder to retain some urine as the bladder doesn't fully empty at times. This can lead to urine infections. Hopefully the Urologist will do a scan if you haven't already had one. I hope you soon get sorted. UTIs are awful.
