Now I cant actually manage penatration

Are you not using lube?

AltitudeCheck · 24/09/2021 00:23

Go back to the GP and ask for an oestrogen cream (and get hrt plus cream if you need both). Moisturiser only (tries) to relieve the symptoms but doesn't treat the cause (low oestrogen).

Use a good quality lube for sex so that you don't start associating sex with discomfort.

Hi. First time posting here. I was prescribed vagifem pessaries as I cannot take oral HRT. They really do make a difference! I would get an appointment with a more sympathetic GP and ask about this option.

Whatliesbeneath707 · 24/09/2021 07:52

Hi @Weseylady, sorry you are experiencing this - bloody awful.
Do you take oestrogen in any form for HRT? If not, it might be worth asking the Dr about that too. Low levels cause all sorts of other problems (affecting the bladder etc). Topical oestrogen in a cream or pessary should help as the others have said.
Do you follow Lisa Snowdon on Instagram? She does a weekly chat with a menopause Dr on a Wednesday & they discuss this and treatments to ask the Dr for. The Dr Louise Newsone Balance app is good too or find her on Instagram- lots of info on her website too.
I hope you get sorted quickly.

Read up on vaginal atrophy. There is a great Facebook group with loads of info.

You can get your sex life back!

I have mild vaginal atrophy which is a similar problem. I found worrying about the problem made it 100% worse, I started to worry how dry I was which made me even dryer and then would make it more painful. Now I’m out the other end and most of the time can have sex without any worry.

Two things that really helped me was silicone lube, it doesn’t dry out like most lubes do, I tried like 5 different types of lubricants before a silicone one and it’s the only that actually made a difference, the brand I use is pjur med preimuim glide.
I also got prescribed eumovate cream by the GP which has helped too but not sure that would help you.

Hope you find something that helps you. I would definitely try and go back to the GP if you still don’t feel happy and nothing is helping so far.

VagiFem pessaries, which are oestrogen, works wonders.

Munchyseeds · 02/10/2021 19:16

You need ovastin cream from GP, use every night for 2 weeks then 2 or 3 times a week on going...should stop stinging and thicken thin skin etc, also good lube every time

SuperMoonIsKeepingMeUpToo · 03/10/2021 10:06

Another vote for Ovestin cream for your vulva - I use it every day. I also have Estring for my vagina, which also secretes oestrogen. My atrophy, which I didn't even realise I had until I finally saw a gynaecologist thinking that I had massive problems, was 'significant' and I realise with hindsight that it had been developing for years.

Vaginal moisturisers didn't touch the sides. You need local oestrogen.
