Coil issues.

Hello everyone.

I got a coil put in last year and in January got 4 positive pregnancy tests and the doctor said it was a chemical pregnancy which she described as being ‘not a real pregnancy but my body thinking it is’.

I then started bleeding between periods and getting bruises on my lower stomach and being in almost constant pain so I booked to have my coil checked.

It had indeed moved so it was removed and all the symptoms have gone away. But the nurse said a chemical pregnancy is actually a miscarriage before 5 weeks and if I had a positive test I should have had a scan all the way in January to check my coil then? So I am angry about that.

But anyway, has anything similar happened to anyone else? If so did you get another coil? I had the copper coil as I tried loads of hormonal contraception and they all disagree with me and now I’m worried about getting the coil again.

@Wigglywoman i am glad I came across your
Post.. I today actually had my coil removed for the same reasons as you. I was feeling so unwell- being physically sick and light headed. Pains in my uterus and awful back pain. This would come and go on different months! I did a pregnancy test last year and it came back positive- went for a scan turned out I wasn’t. Very confusing and stressful. I was told the same thing as you- the coil can release a hormone that makes your body feel and act as though it’s carrying a baby. It got to the point this month when the nausea returned I decided to get it removed. I’ve tried everything.. the pills.. the both coils and it seems nothing agrees with me! But I will be happy to be symptom free as it was making me miserable! I hope you get sorted soon. I did lots of research about the coil and for lots of women it’s amazing but for for the small minority it really doesn’t agree. X

I had a Mirena coil for over two years, I started waking up feeling light-headed and being sick, I thought I had a bad sickness bug, after a week I was physically drained and fatigued from the sickness. I went to the doctors who suggested pregnancy, said I had the coil and there was no chance of pregnancy, low and behold, I agreed to one anyway, as the doctor needed to rule it out and I was pregnant, biggest shock of my life. Arranged a scan and I was nearly 10 weeks pregnant, had the coil removed, I was told at this point the pregnancy would likely end, it didn’t and I had my daughter 9 months later.

I would never have it again, my periods were all over the place and I had regular cramping, when it was removed, the gynae said it wasn’t in the place it was meant to be and it didn’t do its intended job lol!
