I have just bought a diaphragm

I just bought the Caya diaphragm and now I am a little worried because I have read that diaphragms should be fitted?
This one says "fits most women"
I use the menstrual cup so don't think inserting it will be a problem but I am worried about it staying in place!
Does anyone use it?
Any tips?
Thanks!

Hi @Cayatips. Have you had a diaphragm before, when the NHS used to measure & fit them? If so, does it look to be a similar size to what you had? I remember there used to be quite a few different sizes when the NHS supplied them but this one is just one size.
There is a video on the website: www.caya.eu/en/
If you’ve had one before you might remember how slippery they are to insert! 🤣 You obviously have to plan ahead in terms of inserting. If you use a menstrual cup, I imagine you are not worried about the practical side of inserting it. Are you able to identify your cervix? (It feels like the end of your nose). If you can, you should aim for the diaphragm to be covering it. You do need to ensure it’s in correctly or else your partner might be able to feel it (it’s like a ridge). Did you buy the gel with it too? Good luck, hope you get on ok with it.

Following- I’d love to find one… should’ve asked back in the days of NHS ones. Such a great idea for women. Please report back!

I was fitted for one years back, l found it fiddley and messy, you need spermicide with it. I soon gave up.

I didn’t realise you could now buy them off the peg. That wouldn’t make me feel confident.

I have one which I use for sex during my period, ie as a short term moon cup. It really works for that so I can't see why they wouldn't work for contraception. They have pretty good reviews and as far as I know they're the only sort of diaphragm you can get any more. They're much easier to use than the one I had in the late 80s, I was always completely turned off by the time I got that in.

I always understood that diaphragms weren't the best for reliability.

Rates do seem to be a little bit worse - 83% effective. That's no good if you need solid reliability.
