Anyone bought a cheapish bed that's silent?

In the market for a new bed. Reviews might talk about whether it's quiet when turning over in bed, but has anyone got any recommendations for one that's silent when it's really being put through its paces Wink

There are two components to think about. The actual frame and the mattress. If you get one of those modern foam based mattresses they can be really comfortable and they are super quiet for “naughty time” we have found Halo But then you need a really quiet frame too. Do not get one of those metal old fashioned looking ones as they creak like crazy! You need something that is ideally on wheels as this will add a bit of “give” to the lateral movement and get something pretty solid without lots of joints that will creak and squeak when your partner is doing the “horizontal boogie”

I bought a used Victorian style metal bed frame. Contrary both to my expectations and the advice of the previous poster it has proved to be absolutely silent, even when I am on the vinegar strokes.

I did half expect it to be creaky, and to avoid that I carefully assembled the frame. After three years of use, none of the joints has begun to make a noise.

One of the reasons for my buying this style of bed was that it offered multiple easy attachment points for our light bondage sessions, and on that score it has proved an excellent purchase.

Interesting. We have one in the spare room and it’s the noisiest thing I have ever heard! Maybe there is a knack to using washers, oil, or whatever else to make it less creaky.

I suspect most issues are rooted in unwanted friction that can cause various vibrations. During joining, try copious amounts of a lubricant before inserting components. A tight fit is always preferable.

If that seems to technical wait until lock-down finishes and head to IKEA. Just go through the motions on the various options vigorously and see what happens. We’ll all keep an eye out for you in the news.

More helpfully, I can say our last (cheap) IKEA and our new (less cheap) La Redoute both proved very quiet.

Where is your sense of adventure ? Spend the money on expensive sound dampening wallpaper

Have a metal frame bed from Argos ... must be 20 years old now. If it starts creaking I go round with the Allen key and tighten it all up again.

you should be able to go in the bed shop and say we need a bed that will stand up to vigorous shagging without alerting the rest of the house - but when I suggested just that approach to bed purchase to OH they weren't keen at all.

You need a divan base - take the wheels or feet off it too, so it sits flat on the floor.
Then you need a full memory foam mattress (not just a topper - it has to be solid like a Tempur mattress or similar)
Both of these things together will guarantee a silent night 😉

Divan bed always best IMO. No squeaking mattress as it's being used for certain noisy nocturnal activities.
