Bleeding/periods ruining my sex life!

Sorry if this is tmi for anybody, won't go into gory detail.
I've always had long/heavy/short cycled periods which have got in the way with partners, any special occasion be it my birthday, Christmas, weekend away etc I am always on my period.
I'm not against having sex while on but it takes alot of the enjoyment out of it for me and its limited to sex only which means I don't orgasm as I'd need foreplay. I've tried nearly every type of contraception and I either constantly bleed or continue to bleed in the same way as I usually do even despite taking the pill etc so I give up with that.
I'm currently on week 7 or 8 (lost count now) of bleeding after trying the mini pill again, it's been 3 weeks since I stopped it and its still not stopping lol.
Can anyone relate. Does anybody else manage a great sex life with similar circumstances? My DP is fed up of it, as am I. Roll on the menopause!!!

Your periods sound like mine used to be. During the peri menopause it got worse, bleeding for two weeks alternating with two bleeds a month. Eventually I went to the doctor and she gave me some tablets to take that stopped the bleeding and made my periods reset. I can't recall what it was called. Have you thought about using the Mirena coil? For many, periods stop altogether although mine didn't but they were much lighter and so could have sex while on, if I wanted. I feel your frustration, it's really annoying. I'd see the GP. I struggled for way too long.

There is a temporary solution of norethistherone, which is I think a type of steroid, so you only do that one month at a time. It does have some side effects on mood but if you exercise they're much easier. I did it once for a special weekend, was very effective. Would be a solution a couple of times a year I guess, and you can order the tablets online from online GP services, about £30 which would last for two periods (not consecutive though)

Worth a trip to your GP to check the underlying cause. I thought mine was peri-menopause but a scan revealed fibroids.
I've been taking tranexamic acid tablets to stop bleeding with limited success. GP says they won't do ablation for benign fibroids and a hysterectomy is too major and op for me right now.
Currently on 3 month waiting list for coil.

@Sadsammy I was on the list for a mirena coil prior to corona so will hopefully pursue that when I can as it is the last thing to try before I've exhausted everything.
@costco I tried norethiserone (however its spelt lol) a few years back as I was due on over my 30th bday. It worked fine for postponing it but my periods went haywire afterwards for about 6 months I had 2 periods a month so I would never take it again!
@PinotPony I've been to my gp several times and been tested for polycystic ovaries which was negative and had a scan which showed fibroids but they were small and they said wouldn't be affecting my periods but if theres nothing else wrong then I feel they must be the cause? But like you have said they are reluctant to do anything about it.
Just feel like I'm wasting my youth when i should be having great sex but can't because I'm always bleeding.

Definitely try Mirena then, just get on the waiting list. Totally worth it, both my sister and I were on it (she still is), and causes absolutely no issues - pls disregard a lot of the stuff that's written online about it, it's miles better than the pill in terms of side effects (almost none).

Have you been referred to a gynae yet? If not, push for a referral. Could it be adenomyosis or endometriosis?

titsbumfannythelot · 19/07/2020 08:50

Push for the mirena, I have very light spotting now which makes such a difference.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Nothingtoseehere3 · 19/07/2020 15:10

@BadgersAreReal I was referred and literally had a blood test and scan where they said negative for polycystic ovaries and just noted I think it was 1 fibroid at the time and after there was no more investigation. I know I have at least 3 fibroids now as they were noted during my last pregnancy but they are small so I just don't know if they would cause my symptoms alone. Plus i can't have always had fibroids so it wouldn't explain the symptoms for years.
I have wondered about endometriosis so I think I will push to have that looked at too.
