Contraception in mid 40's on HRT

So I've been on HRT for a year and it really sorted hot flushes and generally I feel I lot better. Started a new relationship 6 months ago after being single for a long time and condoms proving tricky due to ED - it comes and goes but we're both good with that. Thought about getting a diaphragm as I had one a few years ago and got on ok with it but turns out you can't get them or caps on the NHS any more and have to pay about 40 quid. Spoke to the doctor yesterday and she suggested switching HRT for the pill but don't want to mess with hormones unnecessarily. Anyone have experience of this or Caya diaphragm at this age? Seems weird to be sorting this out at 46 but there's still a small chance of pregnancy I guess (16 year old daughter enough to put me off that again!) . Thanks for thoughts in advance.

I had similar issues so I went on estrogen only HRT which helped with hot flushes and other menopausal symptoms but had a Mirena coil fitted for contraception. I know some people have issues with the Mirena but it has been brilliant and I have had no problems, no bleeding or weight gain. The Mirena is progesterone only so it works with estrogen hrt, so you get contraceptive cover for up to five years and full HRT too.
