Experiences on the coil?

My contraceptive pill failed and I've become pregnant with ds 9 weeks after dd was born. So I'm currently 33w pregnant with him.

I've looked into the coil but the hormone free option as I have pcos. (I'm too tired to remember the name) my mom has had it and said she almost passed out having it in and it made her bleed terrible.

What are your experiences?

I thought the mirena coil was supposed to help with pcos symptoms. The copper coil can cause heavier more painful periods

I have had a copper coil for ten years, just about to have it replaced. I have loved it. Yes, my periods are heavier but they are so regular (and only last 4 days) that I don't mind.
I had contraceptive injections for years with no periods and thought that was great at the time but with hindsight it wasn't as the hormones masked my natural cycle and emotions. I much prefer being artificial-hormone free.

I have the copper coil. I had it put in 4 weeks after birth of DC2 so didn't find it to be painful.
Periods are v heavy & 5-8 days long but that's what they were like as a teenager in my pre pill years. I prefer being hormone free & not stressing about becoming pregnant

I bled horrifically. I managed 18 months and then had it taken out.

First coil, zero pain (fitted at sexual health clinic by a male gynaecologist. Second female GP tried to insert and it was horrific and she refused in the end and made me bleed and feel awkward, third was again at the sexual health clinic by a male nurse and I felt really comfortable and tbh it was easy and dobe quickly with barely any pain.

I love having the coil, mine lasts ten years and has zero hormones. Definitely recommend going to a sexual health clinic, they receive better training and much more experienced so the process is so much better. I should have listened to my health visitor as she advised this too.

I have a copper coil and I love it! Had it for 4 years now, put in when youngest was 9 months. Periods can be heavy especially for first 2-3 days but emotionally and mentally I am better off. I find hormonal contraceptives mess with my moods too much and I get quite depressed and lethargic! With the copper coil I've felt like myself and even had a normal sex drive as my cycles go through the normal motions....I've tried most contraceptives and the copper coil if my fave so far.

I also have pcos and am on my third mirena, no issues at all with it apart from a fright recently when I thought it had fallen out due to first period in about fifteen years
Doctor assured me it was still there and was likely to be peri menopausal which I'm currently refusing to acknowledge 😯

I've had a copper coil for almost 6 years and it is the best decision I've ever made!

Having it fitted was a little uncomfortable, but only for a few seconds. Afterwards, I have very mild cramps for a couple of hours.

Periods are regular and last about 4 Days - heavier than before for the first day but not too much.

Don't use any other form of contraception and haven't had so much as a scare!

I had the copper coil and not only reacted to too much copper in my body but also got pregnant

NotTheFordType · 20/02/2018 02:14

Have you had children? My sis had a copper coil fitted a couple of years ago and it was very traumatic. Lots of bleeding during the installation and she ended up with an infection for a couple of weeks after. She doesn't have DC.

I'd stick with barrier methods in your position.

FloralSocks · 21/02/2018 22:50

I have had the copper coil for 6 months. Period were long and heavy for first 4 months but now seem to be settling down a lot, although still slightly longer than they are without the coil.
