Spelling mistakes in sexting a real turn off

Oh, so I admit it, I'm a bit of a grammar and spelling pedant...

New bloke, very early days, not been to bed together yet but have progressed to sexting after nights out (I wanted to take it slow and don't want to introduce him to kids yet). He is very lovely, but not very educated. At first it didn't bother me, but now it's beginning to grate.

So last night I had "your georgeous", followed by "I want to lick you clitorus". I properly cringed and all my horniness vanished.

Am I being ridiculous? Would it turn anyone else off? Should I keep persevering? He also refers to my fanny, which I hate, but am I just being very picky? He is lovely in lots of other ways, and keeps making a big deal of how he's never been out with such a clever woman (I'm not particularly, but I went to uni, which he didn't). I haven't said anything to make him feel uncomfortable, but I don't think I can carry on with the sexting. Do I shag him and see if things get better, and lay off written communication?

I couldn't be with a man that didn't know where to put his apostrophe.

The making a deal about his he'd never been out with such a clever woman would bother me more (just about!) than the bad spelling/grammar when sexting.

I went out with a guy who didn't go to uni whereas I had. It progressed fairly quickly from his admiring "you're so clever because you've been to uni" to "you think you're so clever because you've been to uni". He had a real chip on his shoulder and felt inferior despite my never saying or doing anything to make him feel so. Just the fact I'd been to uni (and held my knife and fork differently, and spoke "posh", and was polite to an elderly neighbour when they called round for something, and a hundred other examples of differences which he noticed and he pointed out) was enough.

Not saying this guy is the same. Just something to look out for.

This. And OP, there is nothing at all pedantic about being turned off by someone who can't write a literate text message, though like some PPs, the content seems to me as deeply unarousing as the spelling and grammar.

It's a turn off if he knew how to spell clitorous tbh, it would mean he's checked how to spell it or used it lots of times before - & for what purpose? I'd be very suspicious of any man who could spell it.

tootsieglitterballs · 16/07/2017 17:57

My DH was a bit like that when we started dating - he very quickly realised how much it irritated me - it wasn't that he couldn't spell, he was just super lazy and a lot of his friends used to do that awful text speak that just makes me cringe!

Can't seem to remember how he realised - Perhaps I just told him!

BungledUpInTwo · 16/07/2017 18:36

Diamond life is that ironic?

Diamondlife · 16/07/2017 18:56

Have I spelt it wrong?
I wasn't going to google it.

What's difficult about clitoris? It's spelt exactly as it sounds isn't it?

I don't know about being suspicious of any man who could spell it, I'd be slightly put off the ones who couldn't if I'm totally honest.

PantPlot · 16/07/2017 20:35

And really impressed by the ones who could pinpoint Finland on a map Grin

AceholeRimmer · 17/07/2017 07:00

It would turn me off too. I think people like that are better on phone sex Grin

Zaphodsotherhead · 24/07/2017 19:52

When I was OLD, I wouldn't even date anyone with spelling mistakes in their profile! On the grounds that these things might be some of the most important messages in your life, and you can't even be bothered to spellcheck?

I'm with you, OP. Cringy, AND spelling mistakes? Double no.

This is one of the most Mumsnet threads I have ever read. I am so pleased to find others turned on by correct spelling and grammar 😄
