I took last one in Monday, but I collected my pills too late and I missed three days. I took my pill today, how long will it take to work?

2 days of pill taking to be covered again

Fairylea · 07/07/2017 21:21

I would check on this but I think if you miss that many you should use additional contraception for 7 days.

BeepBeepMOVE · 07/07/2017 21:22

You need to use something else for 7 days.

dementedpixie · 07/07/2017 21:24

It's 2 days for the mini pill (which one is it?)

Doje · 07/07/2017 21:25

Google the instructions for your particular pill, or ask a pharmacist.

It depends on what week of your cycle you are in.

Turefu · 07/07/2017 21:57

My pharmacist told me to look on google and I can't find anything. All information are about missing one or two pills, but not three. As I'm on mini-pill I don't know which day of cycle I'm on.

It doesn't matter where you are in your cycle. Even if you were just starting to take it, it is 2 days for the mini pill. Read the nhs link

dementedpixie · 07/07/2017 22:00

Also from nhs:

If you have a short menstrual cycle, you will need additional contraception, such as condoms, until you have taken the pill for two days.

If you start the progestogen-only pill on any other day of your cycle, you will not be protected from pregnancy straight away and will need additional contraception until you have taken the pill for two days.

Thank you for replies. So, I need to take additional contraception for two days and I'll be fine? Some sources say seven days.

It takes two days for theprogestogen-only pill to thicken cervical mucus so that sperm cannot get through or survive. The Faculty of Sexual and Reproductive Healthcare advises using extra contraception for two days after you remember to take your pill.

The patient information leaflet that comes with your pill might say to use condoms for the next seven days after you remember to take your pill. This is because it takes seven days for the pill to suppress ovulation.

The above explains why its 2 days rather than 7 as that's how long for the cervical mucus to thicken.

Thanks again. So one more pill tomorrow and I'll be fine :)
