Just wondering? Currently shave but thinking whether waxing or hair remover is easier.

I did once. Resulted in a couple of awful ingrowing hairs. Now I trim and use hair removal cream.

teachergirl2011 · 23/01/2017 20:25

Which hair removal cream? X

I use very sensitive.

FaithAgain · 23/01/2017 20:29

Veet

Ilovetorrentialrain · 23/01/2017 20:34

Hi OP only ever tried waxing the top and sides (standard bikini). For Hollywood/Brazillian only ever at a salon. Just couldn't bear to do it myself and besides the hot wax they use makes more sense there.

For those 'not understanding' foo you'd be horrified in a salon. They usually just call it 'the area'.

GambaJoe · 23/01/2017 20:42

I wax myself 50% of the time. It's time consuming and unless you have a wax warmer you'll be running up and down the stairs to reheat.

If you still want to go ahead, I'd recommend Nad's Sugar Wax, cotton wax strips, a mirror and a shot of your favourite drink 😀

If you have young kids and one bathroom I wouldn't even bother! Youll lose the will the live if you have constant interruptions

QuiltedAloeVera · 23/01/2017 20:43

I tried it once. Slapped the wax on, applied one strip, whipped it off... It made me bleed, ffs. I got in the shower to wash the rest off. Wonky for weeks, I was.

Few years later splashed out on a Hollywood in a salon. The beautician came highly recommended and she was lovely in herself, but I couldn't cope with the plucking of the missed hairs and ended up asking her to stop. Spent the evening lying on the sofa with an ice pack on my bits. Never again.

Nowadays I shave the spider legs occasionally and use DH's trimmer (a 6, since you ask) or nail scissors to tame the beast.

Pubes are coming back into fashion anyway. If a bloke has a problem with it, that's his problem.

Not since the mid 80s.

As a PSA, please note that using a disused filter coffee machine (without the coffee pot) as an improvised heater for solid, cold wax to make it nice and melty is a really bad idea.

Made it less like a traditional wax. More like having lava slapped on your lady garden.

80s filter coffee machine pots evidently needed VERY VERY high temps to get that "blerrrggg" taste just right.

I got blisters and everything.

Add to that the de-fluffing attempt with the very first epilady to hit the market. The one with the terrifying, whirling Coil of Doom. That led to a tense hour of trying to untangle parts of me that weren't hair from a very tight, steely, mangled grip.....I had permanently embraced a retro 70s look by 89.

DumpedAbroad · 23/01/2017 21:51

My waxer calls it the 'lady garden' and 'girly area'

kelashan · 23/01/2017 22:48

I get the oh to shave me down below. We are going away for two days for my 40TH on Thursday so he will have to shave the bush for me before we go x

murphys · 24/01/2017 08:16

If it were just a bikini wax, a diy job at home would be okay I should think. But I have a Hollywood and I go to the salon to have it done. There is no way I would be able to do that myself.

I am not really a fan of Veet or creams. I think it makes the hair grow out thicker. I would rather go through the inconvenience of booking a wax, going there and getting it done by someone else, and then I don't worry about it for another 6 weeks.

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 24/01/2017 15:52

Op, I can't really wax my own Mufty, I find my dirty pillows and belly are too big to get a good view down there at flange central.

I go to the salon and just whip off my under crackers, put my legs akimbo and let them get on with it, whilst discussing holiday destinations etc. They do a sterling job and leave me with a nice smooth VW bonnet.

Every six weeks for me, but I don't have much of a fur burger.

Like the idea of the Phillips light thing though, I might look into that. What's the grow back like?

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 24/01/2017 15:53

OP, as someone once so rightly put it- welcome to the most joyless sex topic ever

Exactly Dame, exactly...

ProfessorPickles · 24/01/2017 15:56

Isn't it agony even at the salon?

Having my legs waxed can be painful enough so it sounds unbearable to have a bikini wax. I always wonder how people cope, or is it not as bad as it sounds?

FaithAgain · 24/01/2017 17:09

I've had it done professionally twice. Apparently I have deep rooted hairs and man it hurts. I also get ingrowing hairs. Not worth it for me.

murphys · 25/01/2017 06:10

I wouldn't call it agony. A bit on the uncomfortable side more like. But the more you go, the less you feel it. Not sure yet if you just get used to it, but maybe someone scientific will come along and say its the hair that grows out less and finer after waxing (which it does). I find its also dependant on which hot wax they use. My salon swopped over to an aloe vera one, I could feel it more than the previous one they used which was rooibos.

I think leg waxing is more painful actually. I think they still use strip wax for legs. But its been a while so maybe its hot wax too now. BTW you do NOT want any strip wax near your foo Hmm

NotTheFordType · 25/01/2017 15:05

I think it's very dependent on the sensitivity or your skin and how deep-rooted your particular hair is. You're not going to know unless you try it.

I have a Phillips IPL thing and have had mixed results. If used religiously every 2 weeks, it does appear to slow hair growth. It certainly never for me got to the point where I could stop shaving. Nowhere NEAR. But I could maybe get away with only shaving every 3 days instead of every day. I am pale-skinned but with dark, thick hair. If you have lighter, finer hair you might have more luck.

Aquamarine70 · 25/01/2017 16:24

I do mu own Brazilian (all off) but I am a beauty therapist. I use professional hot wax & pre wax oil which makes all the difference. I dont think home wax products sre very good & you wont get a good result. I also wax my underarns & top lip myself too. It's also important to use an after wax lotion too.

BusterTheBulldog · 25/01/2017 16:33

I used to have it done at the salon, it didn't hurt that much, but for me the regrowth time was too long before the next wax so I went back to shaving.

Tried to at home once, I just could not get my hand to rip the wax off! Ended up cutting it off which was fun.

Did get some great ingrown hairs when waxing though, only the occasional one but they were AMAZING to pop!!

bitteroulbag · 01/02/2017 20:57

Foufoune here in France. It's totally a thing in North Africa & therefore very common. Very deft & done with cire orientale (sugar) so no nasty after-effects, but anaesthetic cream makes it much easier for all concerned.

DropZoneOne · 01/02/2017 21:06

0nline ShockGrin

I get mine sugared, Brazilian, every 6 weeks or so. I do have a hot wax heater and can manage a normal bikini wax but not the undercarriage.

Tip if DIY and using hot wax - keep the hairs SHORT. By which I mean no more than 5mm. I once slapped it on untrimmed hair then spent an agonising half an hour with a hairdryer aimed at my fanny trying to melt the buggering stuff off where it had shrink wrapped to my skin. I had to gently ease it far enough away to trim with nail scissors as even half a bottle of baby oil wasn't helping dissolve it.

IneedmoreLemonPledge · 02/02/2017 14:24

Yes shorter hair definitely is better for pain avoidance!

CreamTeaTotty · 17/04/2017 23:39

I use Skin Doctors Hair No More cream for the top, sides and undercarriage and trim to a neat frontage triangle.

I'm scared of waxing and shaving makes me itch.

I think Foo is cute!
