Natural family planning

So I'm thinking of starting/looking into this and wondered if anyone had any recommendations for places to read up on this, and also let me know how it has worked for you.

My reasons for doing it are not getting on with many forms of contraception in the past, and also because I do tend to be able to feel twinges throughout the month so thought I'd look into it and see whether I can put it to good use!

Although I don't plan to have another, it wouldn't be devastating to us either. So on balance I wanted to try a more natural route if that makes sense.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

We did this and I used an app called ovia. It's supposed to be for trying to conceive but will tell you when your most fertile times are. I found it worked well for us although we used the pull out method mostly. It also worked perfectly for conceiving, dh didn't pull out at peak fertile time and bam we have ds, we've gone back to using it and ds is nearly 1. I like you can feel twinges and found I became really in tune with my cycle. I'd recommend it but loads won't.

www.nfpta.org.uk/ have a look at this website, use their contact page to request a local teacher, I did this and a lovely lady emailed me with details, spoke over the phone and she explained everything, also look at fertilityuk.org

The book taking charge of your fertility ( Toni weschler) is a great place to start for all the background into how it works, what signs to look for etc.
It's such a good book for understanding our cycle that I feel all teenagers should have the chance to read it

Wow thank you for the great advice! I sort of was hoping for an app Smile

I plan to follow for a few months and before relying on it.

We have been very fertile in the past, but hopefully I can time this properly.

Try looking at Persona or Clearblue Ovulation kits.

I have tried this in the past and experienced the following:
Being very horny at ovulation (presumably an evolutionary thing) - so slightly annoying not to have sex then!!
Finding out that actually it's completely unreliable as I conceived my DS 2 days before my period was due to begin.

I use an app called Kindara and a BBT thermometer. it measures your temperature more accurately and precisely than a normal one (two decimal points). You just take your temp first thing in the morning before getting out of bed and chart it on the app.

You can also track cervical mucus as it changes consistency before you ovulate - it becomes more like egg white. The app kind of explains what to do and what to look out for.

I would definitely recommend getting a thermometer as you have a really clear shift in temperature when you ovulate. I am also considering getting a diaphragm for fertile times as we really hate condoms!

Try Natural Cycles an app developed by a woman who used to work at CERN. Lots of good reviews!

My DH and I used the withdrawal method for 3 years and never had so much as a scare. The first time he ever came inside (with my permission) I got pregnant!
It is more reliable than people say and if it's not the end of the world if you get pregnant then I's say go for it.
P.S. I don't get on with ANY form of contraception.
