What has happened to my sex drive?

See AF told you I would start a thread Wink

I have a fairly low sex drive anyway. Think maybe once a fortnight to a month is normal. However me and dh have not have sex since new year and it's my fault. I just have no interest what so ever.

I love my dh and have no issues with him so it's not that.

I have wondered if it's the birth control I am on. I am currently on the Mirena. Could this be affecting it? We have noticed my sex drive dwindling ever since it has been put in. I've had it almost a year now.

If I was to get it removed what could I go on?
I can't have the injection as if gives me migraines
I also can't have the pill that has the same hormone as the injection as it's the same effect. Though I know there are other pills I can try (leaning towards this one)
Don't want the implant. Makes me feel ick
Can't have the copper coil. I was warned off it by the doctor as apparently it can make your period flow heavier and I suffer anaemia

Could go privately for the snip.... Problem solved

NeedACleverNN · 25/06/2016 00:31

I didn't actually think of that. They can't oppose your choice in private health can they?

The cap. Not much favoured now but I used in for four years without geting pg! No hormones, can pop it in hours or mins before. Easy peasy....

OP if you have a mirena coil why not just have it replaced with a copper coil? I loved mine. No nasty hormones messing with you, and no babies Grin

I only had mine removed to conceive DS, only haven't got a new one yet as I cant face the installation at the moment.

Hi NeedACleverNN, I have been struggling with this issue too lately, and while Googling on the subject, I came across a recommendation for a book called Mating in Captivity which looks at how for some couples, too much intimacy can kill the erotic drive in a relationship. It's about the idea that being together all the time, sharing all our thoughts etc, while great for the relationship, can sometimes leave the erotic side of things a bit stranded, because eroticism can work best when it's fired by separation and want. Turns out that for some people, all that kissy cuddly stuff is a route to the erotic - my DP is like this - whereas for others, ie for me, it isn't. So now, instead of getting straight into bed, kissing and cuddling for a bit, and then disappointing him, I've found that if I think my own erotic thoughts and fantasies while I'm in the shower, remembering not to feel ashamed of what turns me on and that it's not kissing and cuddling him, then seduce him straight off with no contact first, then I find I keep my erotic drive more fired up.
Sorry if this isn't what you were looking for. I also tried coming off the pill to see if it was that causing the low sex drive, and haven't tried going back on it yet. Might try one of those ovulation predictor thingies and go with low-risk activities only on risky days.

Ha think I found my off switch, just can't find the on (FWIW I'm on cerezette and sadly it hasn't had that effect for me)! There is an Evra patch I used to use which agreed with my migraines and at that point I actually seemed to have some interest might be worth looking into?
