Question about coil (mirena)?

Ok I might be in the wrong section of mumsnet - bit I've been getting spotting on and off since I've had the coil fitted about two/three weeks ago - anyone else? Is this normal?

Yes I had some spotting for a couple of months I think before it settled down. I think it's quite common if I remember the literature that came with it rightly! On plus side - I've had it a year now and get no spotting and v occasional very light period.

3 months of like a period almost everyday, then nothing for 5 years. Also, forgetfulness as a side effect, really big things that would not normally forget. Only when I observed someone else on it, did I put 2 and 2 together, it's something to be aware of.

I've had my mirena in for over 2 years and still have random spotting, along with a normal period every month. Previously my periods were very heavy and lasted for 2 weeks at a time so it is an improvement but I was hoping they would stop as seems to happen for most women - just my luck!

Yes i had mine in 3 wks ago and am having spotting.

Yep, stopped within a month and I'm so glad I got one. Sorted out my mood and weight swings.

I consider myself lucky, I have not had a period for 12 years now, mine is due for replacement in August. I also did not get any spotting when it was changed before.
I do think my weight gain, that I can not loose if from the mirena though. I had never been told about the memory lose side affect...but that might just be me

KayJBee · 05/05/2016 19:29

I had about 7 months of spotting as well as normal periods the whole time it was in. Sounds completely normal to me.

They can stay in indefinitely, my mums has been in for yonks! For contraceptive purposes though it's 5 years.
