I've had a really sore throat for a few weeks now. Started off with a cold so it could be linked to that but it's got gradually worse - the back of my tongue starting swelling , it's now so swollen and painful I can't move it to the side .. My tonsils aren't swollen but they look red, my throat is really red and my lymph nodes (glands) have been incredibly swollen for a while.
Thought it was tonsillitis and that it would go away on its own but it seems to be making my breathing more difficult.. It's impossible to get in at my docs.
My Oh has hpv, not ideal but didn't think until just now, that this can be passed orally... And can cause oral cancer...? I've also been erm.. Experimenting with deep throat.. I'm wondering if this can cause serious damage?
Wondering if this is worth a visit to the walk in..

I don't feel "ill" but swallowing everything, hot or cold, is getting more difficult..

Er yes, if you're tongue is swollen so much you can swallow properly then you need to see a doctor asap. Go to the walk in.

Clearly you need to get seen by a doc. Nobody here can put your mind at rest. See if you can request a "Doctor ring back" from your surgery if you can't get an appt. Once you have chatted with the doc they may just invite you straight in to see them.

I was ok until I ate something, it seems to really aggravate the swelling .. I always feel like I'm wasting docs time :-(

I haven't had oral HPV (have got it on the fanjo though - many years ago, no outbreaks in 25 yrs thank goodness.)

What you describe actually sounds more like pharyngitis, as tonsillar HPV is normally asymptomatic according to the info I can find.

Pop up to the walk in if you can't get in at the docs - if you're having difficulty breathing then it definitely needs medical attention.

Go to a clinic and get a swab.HPV tonsils are difficult to treat as are gonacoccal tonsils.Soonest DX the better.Good luck.
