Transfering to year 9 from abroad

We emigrated abroad when ds completed year 6 but two years down the line, things did not go to plan, so we have decided that he should return to Britain to continue his studies. We have contacted the local council and they have sent us the form but all the deadlines have passed, moreover, the form appears to be just for those transfering from primary school. I can't seem to get any further clarification from anyone at the council. does anyone have any ideas on how I can go about this?

Look at their website and they should have a section on children coming back from abroad.

I would also contact the school you wish your ds to go to directly and see if places are available and take advice from them.

Tell the LA you want forms to transfer from secondary to secondary - they are probably being lazy.

Contact the schools, and look at the LEA website (mine certainly has all the information there). You want to look at transfer in year. You may not be able to actually get a place until you are in residence at a UK address, which I would do ASAP as year 10 is when most schools start their GCSE syllabuses and options (some start sooner).

Good luck!

Hi
We came in from abroad into primary so might be a bit different. The local authority told us which schools had spaces and in which year (we had three to get in). We then made our choice from that.

Do make sure that the school is made aware of what your DS has and hasnt done. Dont assume the school will make any effort to do this. Our DS was made miserable by a teacher who branded him lazy because DS hadnt yet done things the teacher assumed he would have done.

Good luck, now that all 3 are settled we look back on our foreign experience as very positive.
