Options - told son missed off list!

Went to parents evening today and purely by chance went to see teacher who sorts out the options and timetabling etc. (about a subject not going ahead because not enough interest). Anyway she got her laptop out, looked at it and I was then told that my son was not down for any options and he had been missed off. Apparently his failure of a form tutor had not handed the form in! Serious past issues with form tutor not handing stuff in and which warranted an email back in January voicing my concerns that the options form would not get to the necessary person, to which I had a reply saying it was being looked in and somebody would get back to me. No reply to date to email. However spoke to Family Manager (they are all in families as opposed to houses)a few days later about something else and was assured if they had not received options form I woudl be contacted. I am absolutely fuming now as all the timetabling has been done and my son cannot do the subjects he wants to do for his future. How in this age of technology can somebody be missed off the list? They are trying to sort it out. My son however is sticking firm and saying he wants to do the subjects he chose and nothing else. What can I do?

Well I'm with your DS and since the school made the mistake they should fix it. I would absolutely insist he got his choices even if it meant making a thorough nuisance of myself and threatening to camp out outside the head's office until it was sorted.

You give them a set period of time (a week) to come up with a workable set of options (you may have to compromise a little).
If they do not do this you make a formal written complaint to the headteacher and ask that all your sons options are allowed as the school and the form teacher have demonstrated a level of incompetence that cannot be tolerated.

However before you do this, please just make sure that this is not a case of your son should have done something, because that is almost certainly what the school is going to come back saying.
